8 Things We, Like, Realized in 2016
When Kylie first made her iconic New Year’s 2016 video, in which she proclaimed 2016 the year of “like, realizing things,” a lot of us thought she sounded pretty vapid.
However, coming to the end of 2016, we can’t help but look back and think that Miss Jenner has some sort of Cassandra-like superpower besides her remarkable ability to embody the concept of Transformation Tuesday to its core. We really have, like, realized things this year! Some of it was good and some of it not so good, but hopefully we can learn a few lessons to make 2017 a little bit better.
1. The Kardashians Will Never Die
The first sign was when Kim K stopped posting on Instagram. Then rumor began to spread about the possible cancelation of their eponymous show. We thought the reign of America’s Magazine Approved first family had ended.
But lo and behold, only two months after we first started wondering if it was weird to care about this, Mrs. Kardashian-West graced us with her out of this world Love Magazine video. Long live the Queen indeed.
2. There Is Nothing Wrong With Loving Attention
And we even have the Emily Ratajkowski-penned essay to prove it! There is nothing wrong with taking one or two or even 100 selfies a day. If you’ve got it, flaunt it and if you don’t got it, use a good filter.
3. The 2000s Are Back
Paris Hilton is still glamorous, The Richies are still relevant and Kylie Jenner and Kim Kardashian are bringing back the velour tracksuit. It’s only a matter of time before we all look like this again.
3. Food Trends Are Only Fun If They’re Delicious
Honestly a rainbow bagel might be pretty but at the end of the day it’s those fresh, non-food-coloring-made bagels that you want at the end of the day. It’s like you were told growing up: at the end of the day it’s what’s on the inside that counts. Unless it’s one of those M&M and Kit Kat-covered cakes because that is one Instagram desert I can get down with.
4. It Is Possible To Find Love On Tinder But Mostly You Will Just Find An Okay Hookup
Basically, don’t spend all your time on Tinder. Instead, go out there in the world and do something awesome while simultaneously meeting cool people along the way. But on the other hand, you never know and there is nothing wrong with swiping through on your down time. No shame.
5. House Parties Will Always Be Better Than Clubs
So next time a promoter texts you to tell you that their table is going to be “lit” tonight, just tell them that you are perfectly happy at home sipping your wine at your coffee table with people who aren’t just there for the free drinks. Unless they did come for the free drinks. Make sure to make your house party BYOB if you wish to avoid this.
6. You Can’t Trust Taylor Swift
She is a successful person and I am sure she doesn’t care whether she is trustworthy or not as long as she has the three houses and million Grammy wins. However, if anyone still thinks she’s little miss sunshine, they need call up Kim K wherever she is hiding out and have a nice long chat.
7. Being Young Right Now Sucks But We Make It Work
You gotta put in the work to get the big bucks and we millennials and Gen Z-ers have to put in twice as much. But you know what? We have the information and the motivation to get there. Cheers to 2017 lovelies!
