6 fashion trends Taylor Swift and her squad ruined

No matter what Vogue wants you to believe, Taylor Swift is not a cool girl.

As soon as Taylor latches onto any fashion trend, it more or less loses its cool points… overnight.

Of course, this is all just a part of the fashion food chain. What is cool one day becomes something available for purchase at Wet Seal the next. Maybe instead of rolling our eyes at Taylor, we should really be thanking her for showing us what not to wear.

But for now, we’ll just count down 6 fashion trends that Taylor and her squad totally ruined, and then we’ll get back to enjoying the weekend.

1. Chokers

Recently, Taylor Swift started wearing chokers, at least one of which cost $2,185. It looked like a peace of ribbon with a gold ball hanging off of it. But hey, rich people are weird like that. While the mere fact that Taylor Swift wore a choker isn’t the end of the world, last weekend she dared to wonder whether chokers were the new flower crowns or not. She then proceeded to wear 4 in 1 day.

It seems like chokers are Taylor Swift’s new obsession, and now that she’s comparing them to flower crowns, we have to come to terms with the fact that chokers are over.

Thanks a lot, Taylor.

I feel like maybe chokers are the new flower crowns?

2. Cat Ears

Honestly, cat ears on anybody over the age of 10 have never been cool, but for some reason in 2012, young women started wearing them. A lot. Were they rebelling against aging in a society that was offering them less economic advantages than ever before or did they just think that it was really adorable?

The world may never know.

Still, as bad as cat ears were, they became even more deplorable when Taylor Swift wore a pair while telling the world how cool it was to be 22, staying up until midnight, and making eyes with the boys who look like bad news.

Just no, Taylor. Just no.

3. Hipster Hats

Once upon a time in the late 2000s, hipsters had their hats and the rest of the world had theirs. Then as it “became cool” to dress like a hipster, all the girls who had previously dressed like little boho princesses started buying up skinny jeans and every kind of hipster hat imaginable.

Taylor Swift was one of these pioneering basic bitches.

And just like that, Taylor Swift ruined hipster hats, making them as egalitarian as flower crowns, fringe, and crocheted vests.

4. Vintage Casual

Can you honestly look at any of these pictures of Taylor Swift and think to yourself, “wow, that looks like the kind of girl I’d want to fux with?”

My point… exactly.

5. Matching Separates

Matching separates used to be cool, and then Taylor Swift and her squad started wearing them on a daily basis. Now they’re everywhere, ergo… they cannot be cool.

Heads up! Something’s happening on @itunesmusic at around 11:59pm EST Monday night.. Available worldwide:) #1989

There’s only so much matching an outfit can take.

6.Tube Tops and Maxi Skirts

Tube tops are cute, but they’ve also become standard squad wear. At least they feel like it.

They looked cool at first, and it still kind of does, but the whole idea of wearing a tube top with a maxi skirt already feels played out. Also, it’s really boring.

No big deal just rolled up with the hottest date. @selenagomez #grammys
