7 Celeb Fashion Trends No One Else Followed This Year

Unlike Gretchen Weiners, celebrities have the power to make fetch happen, especially when it comes to fashion trends. And 2016 has seen its fair share of WTF fashion trends become popular just because celebrities kept on wearing them.

Wearing slips over shirts? That happened.
Cutting up your oversized t-shirt to make it extra thotty? That’s a thing now.
Spending every waking moment in oversized shirts with bike shorts? That’s literally the fashion trend of the year.

But some of the fashion trends this year have been so WTF that not even celebrities can make them happen.

The world just isn’t ready for these bad boys.

1. Full length denim skorts

In late September, Gigi Hadid was spotted walking around Milan wearing a pair of jeans that was also a skirt and we were thoroughly confused by it.

Literally no one else followed suit — in fact, we suspect this is the only full-length skort in existence.

2. Bike shorts and exposed nipple corset tops

While Kim has been mildly successful at making bike shorts with heels catch on, so far she hasn’t had the same luck with making bike shorts and exposed nipple corset tops a thing.

This is probably for the best.

3. Assless chaps

Earlier this year, Rihanna designed a pair of assless chaps that were also boots that had everybody talking.

“Those boots are dangerous!” Rihanna warned. “If you’re trying to get back home to your bed, don’t wear them boots! You will get kidnapped in those boots, those boots are trouble.”

And it’s not exactly surprising that with a warning like that, the assless chap trend has been slow to pick up speed.

J Lo wore Rihanna’s shoes in a music video and Kendall & Kylie have both been seen wearing chaps this month, but that’s it, because as Rihanna warned us, this trend does not lend itself to IRL wearing.

4. Hot pants and underboob

For a while there, Lady Gaga seemed to be wearing hot pants and underboob every time she stepped out of her house.

It was thot positive for sure, but even she gave up on it.

5. The turtleneck-crewneck combo

Staying warm while being fashion forward is hard, but this winter, whatever you do, don’t follow Gigi’s lead and adopt this disturbing 90s turtleneck trend.

Crewnecks and turtlenecks are fine on their own, but together, they just make you look like a nine-year-old boy.

6. Ace Bandage Onesies

Words don’t even begin to describe this one, Kylie.

7. White girl cornrows

No matter how woke we become as a society, there will always be a handful of white celebs who just can’t let go of their cultural appropriating childhood.

This year some key offenders included Kylie Jenner.

and Justin Bieber, who granted, isn’t a girl, but only got braids because some white girl told him to, so we’re counting it.

Thankfully, we have not seen this problematic trend in the wild.

Let’s make sure these and other trends stay in the realm of celebs in 2017 and forevermore, k?
