Here’s how much less sex people have after marriage

Look, when it comes to marriage, I’m not here to discourage anybody shelling out thousands of dollars on a white dress they’ll only wear once, but let’s just talk about the elephant in the room: sex.

Everybody knows that once you’ve been married for a while, you stop having sex so much, but exactly how much are we talking about?

Is it one less time a week? Three less times a month? Or should you just go out and buy yourself a sex doll now as a preventative measure?

Cosmopolitan surveyed 1,162 married twenty-somethings and while their answers could have been a lot worse, over half of these respondents said they’re not getting it in enough.

Before marriage, 24% of the married people Cosmo surveyed said they had sex four times a week or more. But after marriage that number dropped down to 9%.

TBH this sounds pretty scary, but let’s be real, if you’ve ever dated somebody longer than a couple months, you know having that much sex all the time isn’t a thing.

It’s totally natural and NBD.

But here’s some good news: 36% of couples said they had 2-3 times a week before marriage, and that number only drops down to 34% after marriage.

Sure, there’s not necessarily a direct correlation here, but still, if you’re having sex multiple times a week before you get married, it seems likely you’ll be able to keep it up. Pun intended.

Now back to the scary news!

14% of the respondents said they had sex once a week before they got married as compared to 25% after marriage.

7% said they had sex 2-3 times a month before they got married, and that number skyrocketed up to 19% after.

2% said they had sex once a month before they got married, but 8% said they did afterwards.

But on the bright side, I guess, 3% of respondents said they only had sex a few times a year before they got married and 3% said they only had sex a few times after a year after they got married. So if that’s where you’re at, good news, you’re probs not gonna have sex any less than you already do!

But the bad news if you’re definitely not having enough sex.

Unsurprisingly, the survey reports that 52% of respondents wish they were having sex more often, although 93% said their marriages were extremely to somewhat happy.

So the moral of the story: if you’re the kind of person who wants to get married, you’ll probs-def end up having less sex, but that won’t make you any less happy to be married overall.
