The 10 Best Places To Drink Outside In Philadelphia

Hey, guess what? Galore is your new best travel buddy. Click here for more travel-related content.

August is totally the Sunday of summer. With that in mind, you have to make as many beach trips, hit as many rooftop bars, and travel as much as possible while you still can, right?

If you’re in Philly and looking for a good spot to enjoy a margarita under the summer sky and show off your new sandals, this list is for you. If you’re not in Philadelphia, here are 10 more reasons why you should visit. By the way, this list is in no particular order, so chill.

1. City Tap House

Yelp

This elevated bar in University City (right on UPenn and Drexel’s campus) has good food and drink specials. It’s more of a place to chill with a glass of wine and your girlfriends rather than a place to turn up. Oh, it’s also a great spot to go on a Bumble date. Trust me.

2. Graffiti Bar

Yelp

When you’re done Instagramming yourself in front of their awesome graffiti walls, you can grab a drink under their sun roof. They have sick happy hour specials, but that also makes it crowded af from 4-7, which is a good thing if you’re trying to mingle, but a bad thing if you’re trying to keep it low key and sit down.

3. Stratus Rooftop Lounge

Monaco

If you’re looking for a sugar daddy in Philly (which is much harder than in NYC for obvious reasons), this is probably one of your best bets. It’s a bit of an older crowd (considering Philly is populated by tons of college kids), but it’s also a luxe vibe that you don’t get at many Philly spots. It’s the type of place that you get dressed up for, grab an overpriced gin and tonic, and then wait for some creepy old dude to invite you to his table.

4. Monarch

Billy Penn

If you’re looking for a Vegas pool party vibe in Philly, you’re probs not going to get it, sorry. However, Monarch comes reasonably close, especially considering that they just opened this year. You do need membership to get in, but you can also get a daybed if you and your girl agree to spend $120 on alcohol throughout the day, which isn’t hard since they offer mojito pitchers. This is absolutely the only place in Philly where you’ll ever see champagne guns, so turn the f up.

5. Independence Beer Garden

Where Traveler

If you’re looking to go to IBG on the “best” night, check it out on a Wednesday. They have happy hour drink specials and it’ll be populated with lots of hot college kids doing internships and young working professionals. They also are really close to the liberty bell, in case you want to stop in for some touristy shit beforehand.

6. Rouge

Billy Penn

The plus side to eating on the sidewalk is that you can people watch and see cute puppies. The downside is that you also have the potential of being approached by randos. Still, Rouge is an awesome place to eat, so you should definitely at least get some appetizers instead of just drinking.

7. Morgan’s Pier

Reddit

Morgan’s Pier is kind of a love-hate relationship type of place. The love part is that it’s got an awesome view and is huge, and kind of gives you a beach vibe while in the city. The hate part is that it’s kind of in the middle of nowhere, so you can’t bar hop, and the crowd is mostly college frat boys and business bros. They also try really hard to seem trendy by playing deep house, which could be a plus or minus depending on what you’re into.

8. Frankford Hall

eatdrinkrunphilly

Some highlights of Frankford Hall include the option to get a vegan sausage over your liter of beer and the fact that they have Jenga and ping-pong tables for those times that you don’t feel like sitting around in a circle of people on their phones.

9. Cantina Los Caballitos

Yelp

If you love cheesy quesadillas like this chick (and who doesn’t?) you might wanna check out this spot. Yelp reviewers claim that this is the one place you can take your friends and have them all leave happy, which is a big promise, but worth a shot.

10. Manayunk Brewing Company

Yelp

Brewery and sushi bar are not two words that you usually hear together, but this place has both, which should be enough to sell you on it. Manayunk is a bit outside of Philly, kind of like Philly’s version of Queens in that it has many post-grad peeps and young families in the area. It’s about a 15 minute Uber out of the city, but they have a main street with tons of bars so it’s easy to hop around.
