Azzy Milan Isn’t Afraid of Being High Maintenance

When it comes to our favorite Gen-Z IT Girl, we will always hype up our girl Azzy Milan. From her bold personality, unique fashion sense and attention to detail it’s undeniable that Azzy Milan is here to stay and not going anywhere anytime soon. We caught up with her to get an update on everything going on in her world and fashion tips we’re taking into Fall and all 2027.

FEATURE INTERVIEW:

What did you learn early about owning your look and not just wearing it?

I’d have to give credit to my mom, she definitely taught me not to be afraid of being bold. She would put me in really bright colors and prints, which made me comfortable experimenting with my style early on.

Fashion week feels like a whole other planet. What are your absolute “can’t miss” shows you are excited for this year?

Europe and especially Paris, just feels like the birthplace of fashion. I’m so excited to experience all of the energy and chaos that comes with Fashion Week. The one show I’ve always dreamed of attending is Schiaparelli. There’s something so special about stepping into that world for the first time and experiencing it in a city that feels so deeply connected to fashion’s history and creativity.

How would you describe your fashion philosophy?

I would describe it as feminine without being predictable. I love things that are pretty and girly, but there’s always going to be something unexpected about them. I love mixing high and low, playing with different textures and putting together things that you wouldn’t necessarily expect to see together. I like when an outfit makes you look twice.

How does your Latina culture influence your style on a daily basis—not just for heritage moments, but always?

My Latina culture has naturally influenced my love for femininity and glamour. From the hair, jewelry, bags, and the overall experience of getting all dressed up is all part of how I express myself. Those things don’t feel like something I’m adding to my style for a specific moment. They’re all parts of me — it’s less about dressing like my culture and more about letting my culture show up naturally through my style.

How do you weave that into color, hair, beauty choices, or even fragrance?

It comes through in the textures, prints, and patterns I’m drawn to. I love dramatic skirts, fringe, tropical greens, and things that feel really vibrant. Even with this shoot, there were flowers, bright colors, and Spanish architecture that connected to that part of me.

Another big part of it was the hair for this shoot! For one look, we decided to go big and curly, which was inspired by one of my favorite Colombian icons, Shakira. She’s always been an inspiration to me, and I just love a full-circle moment when those influences just show up in my style naturally.

What are your top 3 beauty products/routines that never miss a glam moment?

I’m really big on skincare and prep. The beauty starts before you actually start doing your makeup. One thing I do every morning is ice my face; I even ask for ice when I’m traveling! I’m also extremely high maintenance, and I’m not afraid to say it! I’m very consistent with my beauty appointments and routines because taking care of yourself is an investment. I’m high maintenance, but at least I’m consistent.

What is one drugstore beauty product you swear by?

The NYX Butter Gloss! I’m such a lip-combo person, so I love pairing it with a good lip liner. They have so many shades, and it has that thicker, almost lipstick-like feel while still giving you the finish of a gloss. It’s affordable, easy to find, and always works. A good lip combo doesn’t need to be expensive!

Your audience loves your candid takes on pop culture—how do you separate what’s trending from what’s actually timeless?

I grew up around a lot of OGs in the culture. My parents were always playing artists who were already iconic, so I was exposed to people who will forever stay timeless. I love learning from people who have already left their mark on the culture. I’m still going to have fun with what’s trending. But I’m never above a pop culture moment! A trend can get your attention, but an icon keeps it.

What’s a trend you’ll always try, and what’s a trend you refuse to force?

Color trends will always get me! I’ll say I don’t like a color and then somehow end up wearing it. Aquamarine was everywhere this summer, and I definitely found myself gravitating toward it. Sometimes I just have to admit when the trend got me. Jeans are different. I’m very anti-skinny jeans and very anti-low-rise. I know my body and what works for me, so I’m not going to force something just because everyone else is wearing it.

If your closet had a theme song what would it be?

The Sex and the City theme song. It’s my comfort show, and I actually have one of the original Sex and the City books in my closet. My closet is very modern-day Carrie-coded. That’s probably why it feels so fitting for me. I love how Carrie used fashion to express herself without worrying about whether everything technically made sense. She could be overdressed or completely unexpected and still make it work.

Who are your SHEROES?

I would have to say, Rihanna and Teyana Taylor! They both have such strong identities. They’re feminine and glamorous, but they still have so much edge and individuality. They never feel like they’re following someone else’s blueprint. I’m also going to name my mom as a huge one for me as well. She was the person who encouraged me to be bold and expressive from the beginning.

Which designer or label makes you feel like you can walk into any room and be understood instantly?

Marc Jacobs, I love how playful and unexpected the clothes are. There’s something very doll-like and feminine about the brand, but it never feels too safe. I wore Marc Jacobs to TIME 100 Creators, and it felt really natural for me. Marc Jacobs understands that being girly doesn’t mean being safe. You can be feminine and still make people wonder what you’re going to do next.

What does it actually mean to be an “It Girl” right now—content and style-wise?

Being an It Girl isn’t about having the most followers or having everybody know your name. It’s about having a point of view that people recognize as yours. Style-wise, you’re not just wearing what everyone else is wearing. You’re finding your own weird niche and making people interested in it. With content, people come to you because they trust your taste and actually want to hear what you have to say. The best It Girl’s influence people without even trying; it’s organic. You can’t force it.

How do you feel about buying trends vs. building a wardrobe?
I’m much more interested in building a wardrobe. I want the pieces I own to have a story behind them. It could be something vintage, something I saved up for, or something I know I’ll still love ten years from now. Eventually, I want my closet to feel like an archive of all my eras and moments. I want to look at a piece and remember where I was, what I was doing, or who I was at that time. I want my closet to tell my story without me having to say anything.

Do you think it’s smarter to splurge on one statement piece or rotate affordable staples?

If we’re being financially conscious, I’d say invest in pieces you can actually rotate and get a lot of wear out of. But who would I be if I told you not to splurge? Sometimes you need the affordable basic, and sometimes you need the statement piece that makes everybody stop and look. I love having both. Sometimes you just have to gag the girls. And if it’s something you’re going to love for years, that splurge can be worth it.

You’re launching conversations through your show “Az If!!” —what’s an episode topic you’re most excited to unpack next?

I want to explore more of the contrast between myself and the guests I bring on the show. I want to talk to people outside of my immediate bubble and discover a side of them I didn’t expect. Someone funny, quirky, or even completely outside of the obvious fashion conversation could end up having the best closet story.

Who would be a dream guest, and if you only could ask one question, what would you ask to get the real tea?

I would love to have my first-ever male guest on the show to be the ever-so-stylish and the one and only A$AP Rocky. I feel like when it comes to men’s style he’s really the blueprint. He’s very experimental with his style and I’d love to tour his closet to see what archival pieces are in there.

What is next for you as we get ready to close out 2026?

I want to take everything to a bigger scale. I want to be on a larger screen and have opportunities that show people I’m more than just a content creator. There are so many different spaces I want to explore, and I’m excited to see how far I can take it. At the same time, I’m only 20. I put a lot of pressure on myself to constantly do more, move faster, and get to the next thing, but I’m learning that I also have to slow down and give myself flowers. And, of course, I’m manifesting the Met. I don’t just want to attend the Met—I want to be part of the moment.
