13 Happy Hours To Try In NYC
You woke up this morning feeling like it’s still a Monday, except it’s actually Thursday. You’re almost to the end of your week and have already done at least four full business days worth of conference calls or school classes. The only thing keeping you at bay is knowing that you’re in NYC, where happy hour starts at noon. Unfortunately, we’re not all Don Drapers or Roger Sterlings and can’t call it a day after a drunken lunch hour. But what we can do is walk right down the block after our long day and get ourselves a good glass of bourbon or beer. In order to have a fully functioning work week, you need to be able to let off some steam before exhaustion kicks your ass. Here are a couple of places around the city to refurbish your sanity, sit back and relax.
This exquisite bar and restaurant feels like you’re back in Cancun eating quinoa and frijoles while sipping on your Dos Equis brews. With a $4 beer and wine selection during happy hour, a swing by here is an absolute must.
1556 2nd Ave, New York, NY 10028
With a more lower side vibe going on, this is one of the grooviest UES bars to step in. The Penrose is notable for their charming and classic aesthetic, infused with brick walls and wooden tables. If you’re feeling classy but want a good deal and a good drink, here’s your place; at $5 drafts and $6 house win and drinks.

The name may remind you of one of Lana’s escapade lieu, and it’s probably because it does actually have that nautical, peaceful feel. Pair some vodka with quality oysters and lobster rolls for a pretty fair price!
568 Amsterdam Ave, New York, NY 10024
One of my favorite bars in all of Manhattan, simply because it is as ubiquitous with its walls as it is with their drinks. This Irish pub literally names their drinks after infamous poets and writers and has even become a library. Pass over the bourbon and book, then happily unwind.
450 Amsterdam Ave #1, New York, NY 1002
You’ll enter this place semi-packed by 5pm, and see it fully packed by 8pm. It’s great for classic, tasty cocktails and good tunes. Don’t worry, even though it may be full, it’s a place where you can meet your friend and talk about how you were almost late to work this morning because you and your new bae were getting it on.
22 E 54th St, New York, NY 10022
This spot is perfect for those late, happy hour days. If you were too busy with school or work and skipped out on lunch, the Shakespeare is the place to go. Walk in starving and thirsty, leave satiated with both the food and draft beers. You won’t want to miss this gritty London vibe.
24 E 39th St, New York, NY 10016
Six dollar Jameson shots, sports grill and a youthful crowd? Sounds good to me, let me just grab my jacket, switch my heels to sneakers and I’m in. Lincoln Park has that typical New York graduate student vibe, good to be back.

A rock’n’roll bar with good happy hour deals and killer jams. They have over 40 draft beers up for grabs, and the service and environment is sure to feed a good time.
236 W 54h St., New York, NY 10019
This bar’s aesthetics covers all the major decades of the 20th century without being overwhelming. You’ll find those black leather club chairs by the bar, a rococo styled saloon, and an art deco display all in the same vicinity. Its all fused together by their swinging tunes. They take their decades seriously, you’ll feel like you’re back in 1965…or 1925.

This “Beer Specialist” Zagat rated bar has $7-$9 imported beers on draft during happy hour! If you’re in the area be sure to stop by this 60 year old establishment and with an outdoor terrace. One of the only pet-friendly bars where you’ll get great service, stellar brews, and delicious whiskies served perfectly.
41 1st Avenue, New York, NY 10003
I’ll admit, when I think of the Ninth Ward, I automatically think of “A Streetcar Named Desire”. Why? Well, because it just has that authentic New Orleans feel. There’s something about the hurricane shutters lining perfectly with your Sazerac – the dim lighting and private curtains allow you to mellow down into the night after a long day. Or maybe it’s that sweet, southern fountain hidden in the garden out back.
180 2nd Ave, New York, NY 10003
A New York classic microbrewery. One of the best bars for happy hour, any day of the week. Great happy hour deals, eclectic decor, the bar is constantly just as alive as its crowd is. Trust me on that one.
281 Bleecker St, New York, NY 10014
Located in an equally chic area, this is the place to head over if you’re looking for a more intimate feel where you can order a cocktail and sip it slowly as you actively ignore your cell phone and order their own garden grown dishes. And maybe meet with your date, you know if you can find love in NYC!
