Miley Cyrus’s New Music Video for “Malibu” Is So Cute I Cried

Miley Cyrus released her new song “Malibu” today and it gives me great pleasure to tell you that even though it’s not a banger, it is very good.

And I don’t know if it’s just because I’m feeling extra emotional today or what, but the music video was so cute it made me break the cardinal sin of womanhood: it made me cry at work.

To put it simply: it’s been a long time since we’ve seen Miley look remotely this happy.

When she announced she was coming out with a new single, she said it would be an acoustic-sounding song about her fiancé, and I don’t think I’m alone in saying I was concerned.

Love songs can go from cute to vomitrocious real quick, and I didn’t know if Miley had enough distance to pull it off without verging into John Legend territory.

But as my co-worker Erica so perfectly put it, “Malibu” is sweet without being corny – and it’s easy and breezy enough to get swept away by regardless of whether you’re a fool in love or a total raging fuckgirl.

“Malibu” appeals to the romantic in all of us who wants nothing more than to frolic on the beach with a shit-eating grin on your face because you’re just that happy – which is exactly what Miley does in the music video in a variety of wedding white-on-white lewks.

And in a day and age when the only genuine emotion most people sing about is being hopelessly alone and strung out on pills, it’s more refreshing than that first sip of water after a night of pounding back shots all night.
