How To Maintain Your Hair When You’re Going Shampoo-Free For A Few Days
We can think of many reasons for skipping a shampoo session but when you do, how do you maintain it without leaving your hair gross, dirty and frizzy?
Thanks to Shhhowercap, we spoke to New York based hair-goddess Carli Van Voorhis of Wonderland Beauty Parlor and she gave us tips to maintain no-poo hair (yes, that’s what people are calling it).
1. Dry Shampoo Is Your Friend
The process of weaning yourself off shampooing isn’t always so cute but dry shampoo will make it easier. Dry shampoo will absorb oils out of the hair and will make the hair easier to style – not to mention, most of them smell really great.
Product recommendation: Batiste Dry Shampoo
This product can be found in most drug stores and even though it cost’s less than $10, the formula is great.
2. Distribute The Oils Through Your Hair
When you’re skipping washes, a good scalp massage and a thorough brushing will go a long way to distributing oils evenly throughout the hair.
This will help your hair not to look greasy and the natural oils will strengthen and moisturize every follicle.
3. Use A Showercap
Humidity causes frizz so you want to make every effort to avoid this. Using a shower cap is going to drastically eliminate the humidity that reaches your hair and this will help you maintain frizz-free and well moisturized hair.
Product recommendation: Shhhowercap
We’re kinda obsessed with the Shhhowercap because it’s the fashion forward alternative to your traditional, hotel bathroom, cheap shower cap.
4. Use Conditioner
Throw on a conditioning treatment and use a shower cap to cover your hair for 10 mins. The heat generated from your scalp will allow the conditioner to penetrate deeper into the cuticle and be more effective. Once done, rinse with cool water to lock in the moisture.
Product recommendation: Neutrogena Triple Moisture Deep Recovery Hair Mask
This product will give you life. It provides triple moisture by using 3 different extracts – Olive, Meadownfoam Seed and Sweet Almond – to target different areas within hair strands.
