Balenciaga’s Still Not Over Bernie Sanders

Like many of us, Balenciaga can’t seem to let go of the loss of Bernie Sanders’ play for the White House.

At their Sunday showing of their new ready-to-wear collection, we spotted yet another siting of the Bern. Designer Demna Gvasalia is no stranger to showing his admiration for the politician. During his fall ’17 show for men in January, the collection was heavily influenced by Bernie’s campaign graphics. Models were strutting down the runway in Bernie embellished jackets, T-shirts, and nails.

He was definitely promoting the Democratic party real hard.

This time around, Balenciaga took a lighter approach to things by presenting red and blue shoes that look like Book Sox covered heels. It could also be that the designer just took leftover T-shirts from his past collection to whip these bad boys up real quick.

Even though these awkwardly designed heels look like they belong at your local Payless, these lovelies won’t come cheap. People who have no clue to what to do with their riches who are also fans of the Bern will have to pay a retail price of $600 to $800.

Are they for real?

I love me some Bernie, but paying for a $600 pair of shoes is not in my near future especially if they look as if they were crafted by a 5-year-old during arts and craft time.

Considering Bernie himself is all about the low-key fashion statement, I don’t think he would be down to pay such ridiculous prices. In February he told CNN’s Jake Tapper, “I think, of my many attributes, being a fashion maven is not one of them.”
