Sorry But Biotin Is Prob Doing Nothing For Your Hair or Nails

If you take any vitamins, chances are you take some sort of biotin supplement. Who wouldn’t want the thicker, healthier hair and stronger nails each bottle of biotin promises?

Well, you might as well save your dollars, because there’s a good chance that biotin doesn’t do shit but cost you money.

You probably already suspected this, because after six months of taking biotin, you’re still not Rapunzel or even her distant cousin. But, a cosmetic chemist and a dermatologist just confirmed it when talking to SELF.

“The influence of biotin on hair and nail growth is closer to urban myth than a fact at this point,” said cosmetic chemist Stephen Alain Ko to SELF.

On top of that, dermatologist Pamela A. Lowe said biotin is pointless unless you’re actually biotin deficient, which you’re very unlikely to be.

“Because many supplements of biotin rarely get absorbed into one’s system efficiently — unless one is extremely deficient — it really doesn’t pay off to use it,” she told SELF.

This is tragic, because you were probs hoping that biotin was the key to growing out your locks like Nicki Minaj’s recent look. But on the plus side, now you know what not to pick up next time you hit up CVS. And while expensive hair products might cost you more money, they may actually help your hair unlike biotin!
