Rebel Beauty Starring Ashton Sanders
Ashton Sanders has stolen our hearts with his roles in the Academy Award-winning film ‘Moonlight’ and the film Judas and the Black Messiah – to name a few. Aside from being a leading figure in television and film, Ashton has become somewhat of an icon in Men’s Fashion from his Met Ball 22′ look to his off-camera street style (usually a cool jacket, sunglasses, and baseball cap). We chat with Ashton about his iconic roles, what keeps his skin glowing, and what’s next for the Califonia-born Actor. You have had some daring fashion moments how are you a rebel against the norm?
I’ve always been somebody that just dresses the way that I want, and however I feel in the moment. I’ve never tried to be anything I’m not, but also have never tried to be a “rebel”. I guess that is inherently just a part of my makeup of who I am.
Being a black man what is your skincare routine?
My daily routine is to start my day with a face wash, then a mask, and then moisturize.
What is your fashion philosophy?
Dress how you want, and express yourself.
What fashion brand are you obsessed with at the moment?
NoFaithStudios, Dion Lee, Balenciaga, YSL
What is your go-to fragrance?
YSL’s – MYSLF Eau de Parfum
What advice would you give your 16-year-old self?
When I think back to myself at 16 and where I am now, I think about how I am exactly where would have wanted to be. So I would tell my 16-year-old self to stay on the course that he is on, life gets lit!
What was the first designer piece you purchased with your first big paycheck?
Probably would have to be a backpack from the Gucci store in Chicago.
If you could have dinner with any icon dead or alive who would it be or why?
I would love to have dinner with Prince. I think he’s just so brilliant, and I would love to just experience him and pick his brain.
What are your 5 style codes for looking fresh?
A tailored fit, always wear cowboy boots, always pop out with a good pair of black sunglasses, silver accessories, and moisturized skin.
When on the road what drugstore beauty item do you swear by?
Lip balm, a good fragrance lotion, and deodorant.
What song is your go-to when working out?
I usually play 90’s hip hop. Not one song in particular but recently been bumping the Blackstar album by Most Def and Talib Kweli.
What movie inspired you to become an actor?
It was actually a theater experience, and it was seeing “The Lion King” at the Pantages Theater in Los Angeles when I was 6 years old.
What book are you currently reading?
“Tao te Ching” by Lao Tzu
What are your thoughts on AI?
It’s borderline ridiculous.
What is next for you?
Who knows? I’m just trying to stay on the right path.
