Meet Contrapposto, the Beauty House Turning Scent Into an Art Form
Contrapposto introduces its debut collection of extraits de parfum: Melting Flowers, Musc Pétille, and Lubanite. Founded in 2023 by husbands Nick Axelrod-Welk and Casey Axelrod-Welk, AGNP-C, the house began as a Los Angeles aesthetic dermatology practice built on a single conviction: that aesthetics is an art and science, and should be practiced as such.
This collection marks Contrapposto’s first foray into perfumery, and the beginning of a broader language for the house. Named for the sculptural principle of natural counterbalance, Contrapposto treats enhancement as an act of refinement, never transformation. Beauty, in the house’s view, is not created. It is revealed.
“In many ways, Contrapposto is the only brand I could create at this point in my life and my career,” says Nick Axelrod-Welk. “The only reason to put something into the world in 2026 is to truly add pleasure to someone’s life, to introduce a new idea.
I think constantly about the notion of ‘luxury,’ and how craftsmanship, artistry, and the experience of the individual define value, not just branding or marketing. When all of that falls away, does the product stand on its own?
We began with fragrance because scent demands equal parts creativity and clinical precision. A perfume has a reason to exist or it does not. This collection reflects the standards that have guided Contrapposto from the beginning, and the first step in building a modern American beauty house.”
