Study: Guys Are More Concerned With Being Hot Than Women Are
Men continue to break gender-driven stereotypes lately, and not necessarily in a good way.
First, it was found that men talk about dating apps way more than women do, and now it’s been discovered that men rank being hot as more important than women do.
Considering how much body image for women has been in the news lately, and how many products are constantly marketed towards women to change their look, this may come as a bit of a surprise. Perhaps the difference is that men care about being hot, but already think they’re hot, whereas women stress about not being attractive enough?
The study, done at Chapman University, analyzed how different factors (such as weight, finances, etc.) determined one’s overall happiness.
“For women, satisfaction with overall appearance was the third strongest predictor of overall life satisfaction, behind only satisfaction with financial situation and satisfaction with romantic partner. For men, appearance satisfaction was the second strongest predictor of life satisfaction, behind only satisfaction with financial situation.”
Okay so, women want to be hot, but if they don’t think they’re attractive and they have a lover who thinks that they’re attractive it makes it okay? And both men and women ranked their financial situation as what makes them the happiest? It makes you wonder how this study would pan out in other countries, and if the relationship between financial success and happiness has a bell-shaped curve to it.
Regardless, it’s interesting to see how men value their looks over nearly everything else, whereas woman place a bit more importance on relationships. On one hand it’s surprising, considering that women are known for being “divas” and high maintenance about their looks. On the other hand, does it really surprise you that men only care about their money and their appearance rather than other people? Next time you’re walking past a reflective building with your dude, watch to see if he’ll check himself out in the mirror, I’ll bet you that he does.
