7 Trends That Have Already Been Done To Death In 2017

NYFW ended yesterday, but I bet you can’t even name any “new” trends that popped up. Because you’d already been wearing some hot new trends. Where did those come from? Well, from your fave Instagram celebs, and the Kardashians and the Jenners and that rando screenshot of #stylegoals you saw on Twitter.

The thing about this new fashion landscape is that trends get played out a lot faster. In fact, even though it’s already February of 2017, some semi-recent trends are already so overplayed.

Keep in mind, we’re not saying that any of these trends are ugly. In fact, lots are super cute. We’re just saying you might want to avoid them if you don’t want to evoke the reaction of, “oh, here we go again,” while you enter the party dressed like 30 other girls in there.

1. Cutouts In Cheap Shirts

Fast fashion isn’t going anywhere, and the latest craze that these retailers are balls deep in is the trend of doing random ass cutouts in horribly cheap shirts. Maybe it’s a keyhole type neckline, maybe it’s a built-in choker, maybe it’s a open stripe along your abs. Either way, it’s probably going to get ruined the first time you put it in the wash, but at least it was only $12.

2. Over The Knee Boots

Thanks to brands like Public Desire that make cute and affordable shoes, everyone and their mother purchased a pair of over-the-knee boots in the last year. Does this mean they’re not cute? No, they’re cute af, but don’t be surprised if you see 20 other girls at the club wearing the same exact pair as you.

3. Choker Tops

Taylor Swift and her squad already made the choker trend overplayed a while back, but this built-in choker trend is also on its last legs. The first time we saw it, it was practically magic and we were all in awe when we realized it wasn’t just a matching choker, but a strap that comes up the back to be a part of the shirt. Now? We’re sick of seeing it.

4. Thrasher Tees

Flames are still coming in hot (pun intended), but now that other more mainstream retailers are using flame graphics, let’s leave the Thrasher merch to the skater dudes that we stole them from, kay?

5. Bardot Tops

Been there. Done that. Sick of looking at it.

6. Metallica Tees

Like Thrasher tees, these just make you look like a poser. I wouldn’t be surprised if half the people who wore a Metallica tee in the last month only heard Metallica’s music for the first time at the Grammys with Lady Gaga. While I’d argue that band tees are a wardrobe staple, they’re really overplayed right now, and if you’re going to wear one, at least wear a band you actually listen to.

7. Lace Up Tops

We love that young entrepreneurs starting DIY-ing this grommet and lace-up design and making money off of this trend. But also, like, can we move on now?
