Bless their hearts, but sometimes when celebs try and get political, they just either wind up looking like a bunch of freshman year college students trying way too hard to seem woke, or they just seem like a bunch of weirdos.
This year, the most notable woke celeb was Katy Perry, literally getting naked to try and get you out to the polls on November 8. But believe it or not, back in the day, celeb voting ads used to be even more random.
Like this ad from 1990 when Madonna hung out with two of her jort-wearing gay BFFs while they all tried to sing in the same key and spanked each other!
Or this 1992 video where Madonna put on a weird NY accent to make fun of people who think it’s too hard to register to vote.
And then there’s this ad, also from 1992, where Sarah Jessica Parker and Robert Downey Jr. prove that even though they’re big time celebrities, they can still act like NYU theatre majors and trick you into watching their pretentious avant garde performance art.
In comparison, the celeb voting ads of today almost seem normal.
Almost.
Is it just because celebs have lost touch with how us common folk behave or are they just acting so weird because they’re deliberately trying to go viral?
Just like how many licks it takes to get to the center of a tootsie pop, the world may never know, but so long as they keep giving us content to puzzle over while the fate of the free world hangs in the balance, we’ll allow it.
