Selena Gomez DGAF If You Find 13 Reasons Why Offensive

Selena Gomez cares deeply about making sure you binge watch 13 Reasons Why, but she doesn’t really care about whether or not you get offended by it.

In an interview with the Associated Press, Selena made it clear that they knew the show was going to push people’s buttons, but you can’t make everybody happy, so YOLO.

Now that the initial wave of binge watching is over, the new cool trend in watching 13 Reasons Why is to be horribly offended by it.

It’s being banned in schools in Canada, slammed by famous celeb spawn enjoying their fifteen minutes of fame, and mental health professionals are coming out of the woodwork to say it’s not an accurate depiction of mental health.

TBH why people expect a Netflix series based on a YA novel to be an accurate depiction of anything besides how to drive traffic and get press is beyond me.

Obviously mental health isn’t something to be taken lightly – as Selena herself knows all too well — but teen dramas are notoriously sensational by design, and 13 Reasons Why is no exception.

With the amount of pissed off people increasing, Selena was asked what she thought of the backlash, and she said it was all part of the cost of doing business.

“We wanted to do it justice and, yeah, [the backlash is] gonna come no matter what,” Selena said. “It’s not an easy subject to talk about, but I’m very fortunate with how it’s doing.”

Like they always say, even bad press is good press when it comes to ratings and that’s probably all Netflix was after in the first place.
