RAMON VEGA BELIEVES MEXICAN MUSIC IS HAVING A MOMENT RIGHT NOW

Ramon Vega started off making covers to the most popular songs at the moment to creating his own music inspired by his hometown, Mexican heritage and those closest to him. We sat down with Ramon to learn about his musical journey and what he’s most looking forward to in the future.

FEATURE INTERVIEW:

Can you tell us a little bit about your musical background and what inspired you to become a musician?  

I have the luck to be born in a family where the music is the lifestyle, since I was born my dad and their brothers were on tour, when I was five years old, I asked my mother for an accordion and since then I haven’t stop discovering new musical instruments. 

How would you describe your personal style?  

I would kind of urban, street style, I am a big fashion fan, so I try to find clothes that match my style with who I am, part of the “Dinastía Vega”.  

What are some of the traditional Mexican musical influences that have shaped your sound? 

 First of all my father and my god father Sergio Vega El Shaka, La Dinastia Vega is known for a very particular sound in the music from the north of the country, I started to upload YouTube videos of me singing Mexican music covers, I looked for the charts of that time and next to my youngest brother Santiago, we started to learn all that songs, I decided to make a change in the sound of my music when I became professional, Pop Music Artists such as Justin Bieber and Bruno Mars sounded a lot on those days so they are also part of my musical influences.  

How has your Mexican heritage influenced your approach to making music? 

 In my hometown Ciudad Obregon Sonora is a place where the Yaqui Tribe has its roots, my mother’s family was part of that tribe, the Yaqui tribe is a warriors tribe they were never conquered by the Spanish monarchy, so is my so it’s a great inspiration for me and for a lot of other artist that also have Yaqui Blood running in their veins.  

Can you share with us a memorable moment or experience from your musical career so far? 

 Talking about Yaqui tribe, working with my compa Cristian Nodal, he is also from Sonora so we share the same beliefs, It was an amazing experience, he teach me a lot when we meet for the first time I knew he was in the same track I was but ahead of me, so I can learn a lot of him.  

How do you usually go about creating new music? Do you have a specific process or routine?  

I have always think the music come from our inside so I always try get around my friends, I consider lucky that my friends are my producers and have a nice time improvising with the music and at some points the muse arrive to the meeting, and we create new music. 

What message or emotions do you hope to convey through your music?  

Having a good time, accompanying them in every moment with my music. That’s why I have many songs of different styles such as love, joy, to dance, to cry, everything so that with my music I can connect with them and their emotions. It is very important for me to connect with my fans through music.  

What are some of the challenges you face as a regional musician in today’s music industry? 

 Maybe not only in the regional music, I consider that with the digital music you are competing with everyone that makes music, but I believe that good music will always be appreciated the genre of it is irrelevant now a days.  

How do you feel your music resonates with audiences, both in Mexico and internationally? 

 Thank God my fans have never left my side, we grown up together, so I feel very bless to have them everywhere.  

Are there any upcoming projects or collaborations that you’re excited about sharing with your fans?  

I don’t believe I can talk about it, but I will, for the past weeks we have been working in the studio of mi compa Carin Leon and we have been working on a very special song that I’m so excited to show to the world.  

How do you see the future of regional Mexican music evolving in the coming years? 

 I believe that Mexican music has now a great moment, for the future I believe that all worldwide artist will be taking the basic elements of Mexican music to make Pop Music, that’s what happened with dembow or with reggaeton, we keep listening of elements in international artist, that’s what I believe is happening with Mexican music. 

Talk to us about latest single, what lyric hits the hardest for you?  

Intenciones is my new single, it’s a song I wrote a few months ago and it’s a mix with sounds, I believe is very near to the sound of Ramon Vega in its pure way. 

Lastly, what advice would you give your 15-year-old self. 

 That it’s not so far to always believe in yourself and to keep going no matter what with the same essence.
