Maiah & Gabriel Are Building Their Album One Fragment at a Time
Maiah & Gabriel is a Venezuelan duo consisting of Maiah Ocando and Gabriel Torrelles. Independently, they’ve been creative industry rogues for 20 years, playing by their own rules across film, television, fashion, music, and literature. Together, they remain the very same rogues with a purposeful motto that acts as a guiding principle to everything they’re building now as a band, and it’s just two words that need no further explanation: “Forever Indie.”
Their releases so far include “Blanco & Negro” and “Palíndromo,” both of which have earned genuine traction across the international press landscape. The duo was named Artist of the Week by Mitú, while Zonagirante recognized one of their videos among its unforgettable music videos of 2025. Beyond the recognition itself, the momentum reflects the ambition and scope of the world they continue to build.

Each song, video, and behind-the-scenes documentary chapter is a piece of a larger story that they’re telling. An unorthodox approach, but one that makes the experience all the more rewarding and immersive. Their high-concept work marries the lot of their separate experiences and specialties in order to reflect the kind of film and album narrative that they’ve always wanted to have. In the ongoing revelation of their work, Maiah & Gabriel explore “the same story about two people building a world where time doesn’t exist.”
“Blanco & Negro” is as eclectic as the duo that made it, with a sound steeped in the vernacular of European romance. Vocals and melodies are clearly derived from French chanson and ye ye, while the groove takes the sensuality from Italo disco. It’s all underscored and punctuated by the presence of dramatic flamenco castanets (or something akin to them) for a well-earned melodramatic flair.
In an era built around quick releases and short attention spans, Maiah & Gabriel seem more interested in building something that unfolds slowly. “Blanco & Negro” does not feel like a standalone single as much as an opening scene, one piece of a larger world that continues expanding with every release.
