Lancey Foux’s New Album is Giving Alien Trapstar
The Ugandan, London-based musician Lancey Foux’s — otherwise known as Lance Omal — sixth studio album, LIFE IN HELL, takes us on an introspective journey. Filled with mesmerizing turns, the album is not uniform. There are many layers to Lancey Foux which reveal themselves in every track — 22 to be exact. This is how Lancey Foux best expresses himself.
Inspired by people, life, opposites, truth, lies everything that’s good and everything that’s bad, Lancey Foux is not keen in limiting his creative talents, nor his thoughts. He is a pioneer in being a genreless artist, which explains why he collaborated with one of the greatest artists known today, KAYTRANADA. The trap-inspired, auto-tune laced project LIFE IN HELL is a trippy spiral with a spiritual release.

FEATURE INTERVIEW
Your project “LIFE IN HELL” is filled with so many moods and beautiful melodies and eclectic, trippy beats. Seldom do we get projects with so many tracks. What was your reasoning in releasing an album with 22 tracks, does the number have a significant meaning to you?
I’m on my time, I’m aware of the climates of how people listen to music but my music is always on my time. I couldn’t express myself and my vision with 10 songs, this is the least I could do with two years.
What is your creative process like when it comes to writing your songs?
All feeling, I have a hard time planning anything, my ideas and my movement is all through motion and how I feel at the time. Trench is gonna make the beat right there and Dane is gonna record me right there.
Your visuals are very mesmerizing. What was it like working with the team that made you look like a dope alien trapestar?
Who are some of your musicIt was my idea, the look is inspired by transformation, Fantômas, “Thriller,” I wanted to bring the music and the feeling of this album into human form. influences?
Who are some of your music influences?
I’m gonna answer this as what inspires my music.. it’s people, life, opposites, truth, lies everything’s that’s good and everything that’s bad.
My favorite tracks are “SPIRIT OF X2C”, “ALL NIGHT LONG”, and “RIDE TIL YOU DIE”! What are your top favorite tracks from your project?
“TRY AGAIN,” “ALMOST READY,” “SUN MOON” and “I’M ALIVE.”
What is the story behind your track “LUVS KILLING ME SLOWLY”?
Not being myself in love.
What was the inspiration behind your track “TOO HARD TO KILL”?
The feeling of being two people.
What was it like working with KAYTRANADA?
He’s a pioneer and he’s pure, I also feel like people enjoy his music but they don’t recognise his influence. He’s legendary and I’m super happy we got to work.
What do you want the audience to take away from your project?
That long albums are necessary and that I’m genreless. This is me, read between the lines and that the truth is always right in your face.
You are a Sagittarius, how much of your fire element do you think you exude? Do you know your moon sign and your rising sign?
I know nothing of this, my parents are Ugandan, I tribute myself to that.
If you could have your own festival, who would you have on the line up and what would the name of the festival be?
Every artist who died in the last 30 years
It would be called Back to Life.
