How Model Dioni Tabbers Got Her Mom To Accept That She Poses Nude
Right when it’s about to get cold, photographer Nicholas Routzen is giving us major FOMO with these pics of Dioni Tabbers living it up in Costa Rica.
Dioni, who regularly bares it all in photoshoots, talked to us about how she got her family members comfortable with her posing nude, her message for slut shamers, and why modeling for sexy shots doesn’t mean she’s not a feminist.
Can you tell us why being in the nude makes you feel empowered?
I wouldn’t say I feel empowered when I’m nude, but happy that I am confident and proud of my body. I don’t think it’s something anyone should ever feel insecure about. Feeling strong and confident about your body is something I think every woman should experience
Were you always so comfortable with your body? If not, how did you get there?
I think modeling helped me feel more proud of my body, which is strange as it makes most girls incredibly critical of their figure.
Do you think that spending more time nude makes you more comfortable with your body?
It’s hard to say as I’ve always been confident being nude and with my body. I do think there is still too much of a taboo surrounding nudity.
Some people seem to think that you can’t be a feminist while also showing your body, can you tell us your thoughts on this?
I think if feminism truly wants both sexes to be treated equally, then women should feel just as free to show off their bodies as men do.
How can other women use their bodies to feel empowered?
Take care of your body, your diet, and exercise regime. Appreciate the way you look. Every body is beautiful and unique in its own way.
What do you have to say to slut-shamers?
I have nothing to say to so called “slut-shamers.” Everyone has rights to their own opinion. If anyone asked for my advice I will tell them to never judge someone else’s sexuality. Judgement is never beneficial.
It’s generally more accepted for a model to pose nude rather than the average girl. Why do you think this is? Do you think this needs to change?
People will associate being nude for a model as acceptable as it is part of their job. Though as a European woman I find it hard to understand the restriction to being free in your own skin on some beaches. I would love for everyone, male or female, to be comfortable with themselves with or without clothes.
Have any of your friends or family members discouraged you from posing nude? What did you say to them?
In the beginning of my career my mother was concerned about pictures of me in the nude or semi-nude. I assured her that I felt very comfortable with the teams I was working with and would never have allowed myself to be pressured into doing something I did not want to do. She’s since loved all the work that I have done and is very proud.
