CHINESE MUSICIAN XIN LIU RECENTLY PERFORMED AT HER FIRST INTERNATIONAL STAGE
Chinese singer, dancer and producer Xin Liu recently killed it on the Coachella stage during her very first international performance and we couldn’t wait to chat with her about her new project, how it felt to bring her Chinese culture to her American supporters and what she has in store for the rest of the year!
FEATURE INTERVIEW:
You recently performed at Coachella; can you talk about how that experience was?
The most exciting thing was that I was able to bring Chinese national ethnic heritage to the world stage, which is what I have always wanted to do! I am also very thrilled because Coachella is my very first international stage! This time, I was honored to perform this song together with one of my favorite choreographers, Kiel Tutin and music producer Tiger JK with his wife Tasha.
Favorite place to vacation right now?
I don’t have a specific place, but I want to go to a place where I can relax and rest, where there is the sea and nature.
What made you take an interest in break dancing?
I was born to love dancing. I started doing it when I was young. After watching it, I thought it was very cool. I have always loved it because I studied ballet and martial arts when I was young.
But my favorite is hip-hop, which is very free, relaxed and full of personality. That’s why in my last album XANADU, I wanted to pay tribute to my love for street dance. And I made 10 different dance styles and collaborated with 10 different top choreographers and integrated the ethnic heritage elements from my hometown in China that I had seen since childhood.
What was your stage outfit for Coachella?
This time, I hoped that the stage look of Coachella still retains the combination of ethnic heritage/elements in the design of the costumes and has a connection with the opening VJ which is a Phoenix. The content in my XANADU album also has a connection change from Golden Pheasant to Phoenix, so I chose it.
What’s next for Xin Liu? Anything you care to share exclusively with Galore readers?
My new song was recently released. It is also my first single in full English and it is the prelude to my new album, so I am very looking forward to it. Because previously because of covid, it was very hard to work with music producers in person when I made music, I communicated with the producers online.
This time I went to the United States in person to complete the work with the producer, so I am very much looking forward to it. The main purpose of this new song Reality is to convey a very relaxed and comfortable feeling. No matter what the situation is, you can take space to enjoy reality and life.
I hope everyone can express their truest state. This is also my state at this stage. This song is also the first single I collaborated with 88rising, because the previous works were all made by me after listening to them, and I made what I wanted to do! This one is more in the same space as the musicians and producers. It feels like a big family and I’m very happy.
