Ashley Graham’s Barbie Will Be The First Without a Thigh Gap
If for some reason you ever wanted #ThighGapInspo (which you really should be over by now, c’mon), you could check Instagram. Or, you could check your fave controversial doll by the name of Barbie.
Along with her pointed toes, perky boobs, and tiny waist, Barbie also has always had an intense (and unattainable af) thigh gap… until now.
Ashley Graham officially has her own Barbie doll, which she was presented with at the Glamour Women of the Year Awards. Just like Ashley has always been adamant about being real and saying no to Photoshop, she made sure to tell Mattel that she wanted her Barbie doll to have a body exactly like hers.
She told The Huffington Post that her first order of business was ensuring that her Barbie’s thighs would touch, making it the anti-thigh gap, or “mermaid thighs” if you really need a name for it (but trust us, you don’t).
“I was like, ‘Guys, we can make this Barbie, but if her thighs don’t touch, she’s not authentic,” she said to The Huffington Post.
Graham sent 360-degree full body photos of herself to Mattel to ensure that they got every detail, down to her beauty marks–according to NY Post.
She also requested cellulite, according to The Hollywood Reporter, but unfortunately there is only so much that you can do with plastic.
Unfortunately, because Graham’s doll is a part of Barbie’s “Sheroes” line, it won’t be for sale. Instead, it will be auctioned off and the proceeds will be donated to Graham’s charity of choice.
But if you are yearning for a Barbie doll that has a realistic body (for yourself or your little cousin), you can always purchase one of Barbie’s newer dolls with more normalized body types.
In the meantime, if you still give a fuck about thigh gaps, you need to get over it. It has way more to do with your hip bone placement (which you’re born with) than your weight. If you have one, congrats. If you don’t have one, you join the ranks of flawless celebs like Beyonce and Ashley Graham.
