Featured Interview:
Let’s talk Barbie. What was the process of getting the role and how did it come about?
The process of getting cast in Barbie was very long. But in the process, I got the opportunity to meet Greta and Margot and I fell in love with the project more and more each time I went to the next step. I found out I got the role on my way back from school, I walked into the house and hear “Barbie Girl” playing loudly, then I see a Barbie cake and Barbie merch and that’s when I
knew I got the part.
Were you nervous at all to audition for Greta and Margot for the Barbie Movie?
I was incredibly nervous. I’ve looked up to Margot and Greta since the beginning. I was more so focused on making them proud than anything.
After landing a role how do you celebrate?
After landing a role I usually celebrate by calling people in my family and a few close friends to tell them the news. Then I usually get straight into preparing and reading the script and making my prep notes.
How did you prepare for your role in 65?
My role in 65 was extremely specific and challenging. Besides cutting my hair off for the movie, I learned a lot about acting. Acting is reacting, so when my character doesn’t speak a real language and doesn’t understand what the other person is saying, it starts to get interesting. Learning how to really only act with my eyes and body language was something I learned throughout filming but I’m so happy I did because it’s a method I use often now.
You have starred in some major films like 65 with Adam Driver to Barbie with Margot. What is one piece of advice Margot or Adam has taught you that has resonated with you while filming?
Margot taught me so much just by letting me watch her work. I learned tips from her ability to balance multiple things at once. She and I had a very older sister – younger sister relationship and I’d tell her my boy problems and all of that kind of stuff lol.
What inspired you to become an actress?
The way I started acting was a happy accident so I don’t think I necessarily had any inspiration at so young. But I think just performing, in general, has always been something I loved. I started performing dance for many years and eventually transitioned into just acting after realizing at the ripe old age of 6 that acting is what I wanted to do.
How is it juggling Hollywood and Highschool? What is your favorite subject in school?
Juggling Hollywood and High School is a lot more difficult than some people may think. School already is a full-time job, so when you layer an actual job on top of that, it gets tricky. But I’m lucky enough to have a team that knows and understands my priority for school and I have the best set teacher that I bring with me for each project I do. I’ve been going to normal school ever
since “Stuck In The Middle” ended and I think at this point, it’s time to retire from real school and stick to homeschooling lol. But I will visit for the football games!!!! 🙂
Having a dancing background are you looking for more roles where that talent can be explored via Broadway perhaps?
My main dream growing up was performing on Broadway, but I think as I’ve gotten older, I’ve steered away from anything dance related and have put my main focus into acting. I don’t want to put myself in a box and say “Absolutely not, no more dancing” but for now I think just acting makes me the happiest.
What film would you dream of directing as your first cinematic project if given the chance?
My dream would be to direct something I also helped to write, I’d love it to be a coming-of-age story about a teen girl and the natural struggles that come with that. Or something completely different like a horror movie. I’ve always loved directing and watching directors work on set.
Do you remember the first Barbie you got as a child? If so, did you name her? Was she a specific Barbie character?
I remember getting a Barbie with a short pink dress and she had long blonde hair with sunglasses on her head, I also remember that Ken had jean shorts and I think a purple shirt.
Summer is all about Barbie Mania everywhere. Are you a fan of the color pink? Are you already thinking of your pink carpet dress for the premiere?
Funny enough before I filmed Barbie, my least favorite color was pink. I hated it but halfway through filming, I accepted that pink was going to be in my life for a long time and I need to embrace it. Which I did and now it’s my favorite color. As for the premiere, my dress is the only thing I’ve been thinking about lately lol.
What is your current beauty obsession?
My current beauty obsession is skincare and having healthy glowy skin. I have an insanely long skincare routine and recently started wearing sunscreen before makeup so I can have good skin forever.
