Full name, nickname(s), and favorite quote/or mantra?
Alexi Blue; “To be a star you must shine your own light, follow your own path, and don’t worry about the darkness, for that is when stars shine the brightest”
How did you get your start in music? And how did you build such a loyal network of fans?
Music has always been such a big part of my life. Basically, my music path started with I got my first guitar at 10 years old. That turned into learning chords; which turned into putting together songs; which turned into me singing and playing songs together as well as writing my own music. Then I started performing at tons of LA bars and clubs and open mic nights, which eventually evolved into posting acoustic videos on YouTube. My fans are definitely very loyal, and I’m blessed! They’ve been with me from the very beginning, starting with YouTube covers to now releasing my own original music and performing huge live shows, and everyday we continue to grow together. I think they’re so loyal because we really are on this journey together.
If “I Don’t Wanna Wait” were on a movie soundtrack, set to a specific scene maybe, what would it be and why?
“I Don’t Wanna Wait” is a song about finding someone who you know belongs in your life, but they don’t notice you at all yet. If it were to play during a specific scene in a movie, it would probably be a scene where the actress is stalking her crush… so she’s sitting a couple rows behind him in a movie theater and she’s tired of him not noticing her, so she starts throwing popcorn and Junior Mints at his head so he’ll turn around. 😉
Since you have a large social media following, which outlet (Instagram, Snapchat, etc.) is your favorite way of connecting with fans and spreading new tunes?
Well, I love posting on each social media platform for a different reason, but if I had to pick just one right now I’d say YouTube because it’s my main platform for sharing my music! It’s the main platform I post my music videos on, along with live performance videos and stripped down covers. Instagram is a close second though because I get to not only share new music clips and videos and BTS photos from video shoots and studio sessions, but also my cat and food and personal life. My fans definitely get to know even more about me through my Instagram pics. And I love playing around with the Instagram filters of course.
Who are some of your influences?
When I write music, I definitely get inspired by things that I go through and feel in my life. There is truth to all my songs because there’s a part of me in all my lyrics. I’m really into writing catchy hooks and connectable lyrics. As far as artists, I admire so many for different reasons. I love what Pink stands for. She’s unapologetically herself and I have so much respect for that. Also Justin Timberlake… His talent is undeniable. His work ethic is commendable and I can’t ignore the fact that he’s is walking swag.
Tell us about your sound!
Hmmm good question. I would say Pink meets 90’s JoJo. I’d describe my sound as pop, with a little bit of R&B/soul.
What bands/music are you listening to right now?
I love One Republic. Their song “Kids” is on repeat. Maroon 5 is always on my playlist. I’m always listening to a lot of Drake, and “Heathens” by Twenty One Pilots is such a jam.
You have four albums of Covers — which of these tunes were your favorite?
Yes, I started posting covers in 2013 and over the last year or so, I’ve been able to transition into releasing my own original music. My fans have been so supportive of that transition. It’s really cool that so many of my fans discovered me through covers, and are now dedicated & loyal fans because of my own songs. As far as my favorite cover I’ve posted, probably my version of “Uptown Funk”. That song has such intense killer production, so I made my version completely acoustic; just me and my guitar. I always love making any song I cover my own, and my take on it lets you hear the song in a different light.
Give us your top five fave makeup products!
My top 5 makeup products right now would be a light water-based foundation, bronzer, highlighter, mascara, and lip-gloss. That’s pretty much my everyday go-to makeup look. A good tip is if you’re running late and don’t have time for eyeshadow, use powder highlighter. It’s a perfect quick alternative to add a little shimmer, and it takes no more than five seconds to brush on some highlighter over your lids.
Describe your current go-to concert outfit.
Current go-to concert outfit would be my favorite pair of light denim skinny jeans with a cute baggy T-shirt. I always tie a knot on the side of my tees. For shoes, I’d go with adidas for a more casual look (or grey thigh-high boots if I’m in the mood to dress up a little more) and then of course lots of jewelry! I love stacking rings and necklaces.
Any favorite fashion designers?
I love Georgina Chapman/Marchesa. Her dresses are beautiful. I also love Michael Kors and of course, I think wearing Chanel is every girl’s fantasy.
Any favorite YouTubers that you love to watch?
I wish I could bake like Yolanda Gampp… “How to Cake It” on YouTube. She’s so creative and so talented.
What do you hope to accomplish this year?
I’m working on a 3 song EP that I am planning on releasing in November or December. That’s my main focus for ending this year strong and I’m excited to share it with you because it’s been my main focus for the last few months. I’ve been writing the songs, having them produced and mixed, coming up with video concepts… I’ve been putting a lot of time and thought into it and I’m proud of how it’s coming along. Stay tuned! In a year, I plan to be making even more music and hopefully touring in your city.
What advice would you have for others about following their dreams, whether that be in music, or becoming a doctor, etc.?
The best advice I could give is to stay focused. Work toward your dream everyday and omit all distractions. Also, have patience. It’s the ability to count down before you blast off. Have patience, and trust the process. Good things take time!
Most embarrassing thing that’s happened to you while on tour or while performing?
When the entire sound system was shut off in the middle of my set halfway through a song. It was definitely a shock haha.
What’s next for you? Is there an upcoming tour?
This new EP is in the works so new music is 100% coming. And of course, live shows are in the works too. I absolutely love performing live and meeting my blue stars in person. The future is exciting!
