A.CHAL is Wearing Rose-Colored Glasses And Sprinkling Pink Dust

A.CHAL is all about exploring his romantic side in 2020.

The Peruvian artist who bounced around from Lima, to Trujillo, to Queens, to Massachusetts while growing up, now lives in Los Angeles. His new album is “about love” within Hollywood, he says. “Most people come here to be famous, which is a different monster.”

The album is set to come out later this year, and A.CHAL recently released the first single from the album, “Pink Dust,” which keeps the romantic theme going.

We talked to A.CHAL about growing up around the world, what we can expect from his new album, and more.

How was it growing up in New York and what made you make the move to Massachusetts?

Coming from New York, Massachusetts didn’t feel different at first. I moved to Chelsea, Mass., which felt kind of like Queens, but more Puerto Rican/Dominicans. The streets were active, and it attracted police. However, there was a lot of love at the same time. I remember hot summer nights, hearing loud reggaeton/bachata music & parties in the projects. Later, I moved to a more Italian neighborhood that felt like the movie Departed

How has your Peruvian roots influenced your music?

Peruvian people are spiritual, and it’s a part of me.

Who are your idols and heroes in the music game?

Miles Davis, Prince, Lenny Kravitz, Kanye West, Carlos Santana, & Fela Kuti.

How would you describe your sound and the new record?

Sex, substance, psychedelics, and sunsets.

What song on the record resonates the most with you?

It all depends on my mood.

What is the creative process behind your music?

Live, experience, reflect, write, & dance.

How did the song “Cross the Path” come about with Swizz Beats?

I got called in to do music for the soundtrack of “Godfather of Harlem.” Making a song in front of Forest Whitaker, Swizz Beats, & the writer of the show was amazing.

Out of all the dope collaborations you have done, what song has been your favorite to date?

My favorite collaboration is with my favorite Indie Artist, GHOST.

What do you love most about Peru, and what makes it so special when you visit?

How small it makes you feel amongst the nature. Also, my family, they all live in Peru.

What can we expect next for A.CHAL?

New album, new tour, new movie.
