From Streamer to Producer: Mitch Jones’ Unique New Chapter
Livestreaming has always revolved around immediacy. Unlike traditional television or heavily-edited online videos, a livestream gives audiences the chance to interact with creators as events unfold. Viewers can influence conversations, react alongside other fans, and feel like they are part of a shared experience rather than watching from the sidelines. For longtime streamer Mitch Jones, that connection is the foundation of his career. Now, he is looking to take that idea much further.
After more than a decade in the livestreaming world, Jones is expanding into large-scale productions that combine some classic elements of television with the unpredictability and participation of an online broadcast. His latest projects involve interactive game shows and live events that bring creators and audiences together in ways that go past the traditional streaming setup. This comes at a time when the creator economy is becoming increasingly crowded; millions of people are competing for attention across Twitch, YouTube, TikTok and other platforms, meaning simply turning on a camera and playing games or chatting with viewers is no longer enough to guarantee an audience. Now, creators must experiment with original formats, higher production values, real-world events, and unique experiences to distinguish themselves.
Jones’ new direction reflects these changes. His most recent major production, streamed live on Twitch in July, was a preview of what he hopes to build. Filmed at a custom-built Los Angeles studio, the production featured professional lighting, large LED displays, broadcast-quality equipment and a stage designed to accommodate contestants, live audiences, and more complex programming. The concept brought several established creators into a physical competition while keeping viewers at home directly involved. Viewers could actively participate in the broadcast, including helping determine mystery prizes.
“A big part of the vision is using these productions as an opportunity to give back to my community, while still creating something that’s new, fun, unpredictable, and entertaining to watch,” Jones said.
The July event featured longtime creators including Sodapoppin, NMPlol and Bean, but Jones’ ambitions extend beyond familiar names from the streaming world. As the production operation grows, he plans to bring together personalities from different corners of entertainment.
“We plan on bringing on all types of celebrities and creators,” Jones expressed.
That kind of roster could help Jones develop programming that feels less like a traditional livestream and more like a new form of creator-led entertainment. Television has typically controlled the production, distribution, and presentation of large entertainment programs, while livestreaming has given creators a more direct relationship with their audiences. Jones is attempting to combine those strengths.
“The biggest inspiration lately to move in this new direction is thinking about my legacy and wanting to leave an impact from my career as a streamer,” Jones said.
This appears to be influencing not only the scale of his productions, but also the role he wants to play within the overall creator ecosystem. Instead of using a larger studio to expand his own audience, Jones sees the production space as a potential platform for other personalities to experiment and grow.
“I’m excited to be building a new space with my team, not just to grow my own community, but also to help create opportunities for other creators,” Jones said. Importantly, the move into large productions does not mean Jones is abandoning the livestreaming format that established his career. He plans to continue streaming consistently and maintaining the direct relationship with his existing community while developing more elaborate events. If successful, Jones’ productions could lead to a future in which creators are not limited to the traditional desk-and-camera format. Instead, livestreamers can become producers, hosts, and collaborators that are capable of building their own entertainment franchises.
For Jones, his next steps are about creating a space where both established personalities and emerging creators can participate.
