6 musicians who totally popped off in 2017

For most of us, we always resolve on New Year’s eve that THIS will be our frickin’ year… but for these six amazing musical chicas they super meant that shit when they said it last NYE. These girls all went from newbies to exploding the music world in 2017 — from new EP releases, sold out tours, all the way to millions of spins for your happy little ears. If you don’t know these ladies, now’s the time to crawl out from under that rock and update your playlists.

Billie Eilish

If you didn’t think gloom-pop was a thing, you are super wrong — and our girl Billie has mastered it with her female-crooner vibes with songs like Ocean Eyes and our personal fave, COPYCAT. Billie totally kicked 2017’s ass with the release of her EP “don’t smile at me,” sold out headlining tours in North America, Australia, and New Zealand, was named an Apple artist for 2017, and wore the prettiest gold eye makeup at a performance at CHANEL headquarters.
She’s also brought back giant marshmallow hip-hop style in a major way — we can thank Billie in 2018 when we don’t have to wear body-con dresses anymore and can wear FILA snow pants instead. We’ve heard she’s going to be working on new music soon, and she was recently appointed as VEVO dscvr Artist To Watch in 2018, so chances are she’s likely going to kick 2018’s ass too….

K.FLAY

If you like rap and rock and badass chicks crossed with high-level poetry, than K.Flay will be your jam. Her album “every where is some where” came out earlier this year and included some of the fastest rap you’ve probably ever heard on the track “Champagne.” She threw it back into the alt-rock realm with our personal fave “Blood in the Cut” which should probably replace Alanis Morissette’s “You Outta Know” as top angry-girl-rock song of all time.

K.Flay will be heading out on a headline tour with Sir Sly and Yungblud (two also very sick musicians to keep your eye on!) starting in January — if you wanna see one of the greatest chick performers of all time and dance your sweaty face off, you’ll wanna get those tix like, immediately.

Bishop Briggs

Seems like Bishop hasn’t stopped touring since we met her last year — and she just recently kicked ass on Jimmy Kimmel Live and a tour with 80’s throwback band Bleachers and Alt-J.

Our fave double-bunned babe released more music this year, recently “Dream” and a collab with Cold War Kids. Chances are you probably already know all the lyrics to her song “River” and the song that started it all, “Wild Horses.” She’s managed to create her own genre which is some sort of trap soul crossed with rock and hip hop — and she has more on the way with an album planned for Spring of 2018.

She also helped bring back space buns and Adidas in a major way for 2017, and we ain’t sad about it at ALL, tbh.

Demi Lovato

It’s so obvious Demi has had the best year ever, and girl looks so flipping hot on her Instagram thanks to photog Angelo Kritikos — not to mention her cute AF collab with Fabletics, which makes you just wanna buy it all even if you don’t ever work out.

Her single “Sorry Not Sorry” is no doubt one of the biggest songs of the year, and she’s finally getting the recognition she’s deserved since Camp Rock happened. Next year, she’s planning a huge tour with DJ Khaled, which you should probably try to get tickets to right quick if you wanna see our queen diva (sorry, Beyonce) with the big AF voice.

Lisa Terror (of Terror Jr.)

Lisa had us thinking for awhile that she might be Kylie Jenner — and chances are she prob thought that was funny AF. This past October, Terror Jr. went out on their first ever live tour and revealed to audiences exactly what Lisa looked like… as the crowd cried tears of joy, Lisa sang live on stage — and NO, it wasn’t Kylie, like for suresies.

We found out later through the grapevine Lisa is Lisa Vitale — of non-Kardashian/Jenner decent. The group released the third EP of the Bop City series in October and is rumored to be working on new tunes to top the 85 Million spins of “Come First” and 29 Million spins of “3 Strikes” — which made it’s debut in that Kylie Jenner lip gloss commercial that started all those damn delicious rumors in the first place.

Julia Michaels

If you don’t know Julia Michaels, you’ve no doubt not been living. She’s been nominated for two Grammy’s including “Best New Artist” and “Song of The Year” for her tune “Issues” — if that isn’t kicking 2017’s ass, I don’t know what is.

Her 2017 included being nominated at damn near every award show known to man, oh and another thing? “Issues” has surpassed 1 billion streams worldwide, like whatttt? Her mini album “NERVOUS SYSTEM” came out over the summer, and people ate that shit up — it went to #2 on the iTunes charts right quick.

Her 2018 includes touring with hottie Niall Horan and Maroon 5, so it’s likely she’ll kick more ass next year.
