The 14 Best Christmas Movies on Netflix
The holiday season is easily the best time of the year. What’s not to love with all the delish food, family time and the movies!
But then again, if you’re Queen Antisocial like me, the holidays also can be stressful AF, and you’ll def need to escape at some point from all the time with relatives you only see once a year.
If you do find yourself needing to decompress after repetitively updating everyone on your life, a holiday special or two can really do some good for your mental health.
So we put together a list of our fave holiday movies and shows on Netflix, because who watches cable anymore?
1. Christmas With the Kranks
This movie is just a classic, and if Tim Allen isn’t the first person that comes to mind when you think of Christmas, there’s seriously something wrong with you. Plus, Jamie Lee Curtis is absolutely hilarious and almost manic which just makes me feel so much better about myself.
2. White Christmas
Another notable figurehead of Christmas is Bing Crosby, and this musical is sure to get ya in the Christmas mood. Set in post-WWII New York, two entertainers try to make it big on the club scene while hitting a few bumps along the way, and everyone ends up in love at the end.
3. The Radio City Christmas Spectacular
The Rockettes have been a facet of Christmas in New York since the beginning of time. Please tell me I’m not the only one who goofily attempts their iconic synchronized leg kicks after watching this.
4. BoJack Horseman Christmas Special
If you haven’t watched “BoJack Horseman,” you probably shouldn’t watch this one because there’s a lot of symbolism referencing the actual show and you won’t understand it. But if you have, then this should be at the top of your list. The special is called “Sabrina’s Christmas Wish” and it’s kind of sad, but like any special it ends up happy and merry.
5. The Legend of Frosty the Snowman
Nothing says Christmas like Frosty! Watching this as an adult is so nostalgic it’s almost sad, which is perf for watching alone! But this is a fave of mine, and I always want to build a snowman afterwards.
6. 12 Dates of Christmas
If you have seen “Groundhog’s Day”, then you’ll kind of get the premise of this movie. One woman relives an awful blind date on Christmas Day for 12 days, but it ends up not being so bad when she falls in love with him.
7. Snow Day
If you’re a 90s baby, you have definitely seen this. Starring a chubby Josh Peck, the kids try and steal a snow plow that threatens to completely ruin their fun snow day. Basically “The Goonies” but in the snow.
8. A Russell Peters Christmas
If you like SNL, this is right up your ally. Russell Peters puts together this variety skit show, and several celebs make a cameo, like Pamela Anderson who shows up along the way. It’s kind of crude in it’s humor, but if you’re not one to get offended easily, this is for you.
9. Just Friends
This is probably my favorite Christmas rom-com. A super fat Ryan Reynolds grows up to be handsome AF, and when he returns home after college, he reunites with his high school BFF who was out of his league. And the rest you can probably figure out.
10. A Very Murray Christmas
Kind of like Russell Peters’ show, Bill Murray’s special includes several celeb cameos like Miley Cyrus, George Clooney and Michael Cera jsut to name a few. Bill is afraid a huge snowstorm in NYC will keep people from coming to his show, and it follows Bill all the way to the show.
11. The Ref
My fave creepy actor, Kevin Spacey, is held hostage with his estranged wife by a burglar after a session at marriage counseling on Christmas Eve. It’s kind of dark, but in a really refreshing way.
12. While You Were Sleeping
Sandra Bullock plays a transit worker who falls in love with a daily traveller, and when that traveller is pushed onto the tracks and ends up in a coma, Sandra starts lying to the hospital employees by claiming to be the man’s fiancé. It’s kind of awkward, but the ending is so FUCKING CUTE.
13. Miracle on 34th Street
An absolute Christmas necessity is to watch this movie. Normally, I watch it with family but this is def something you can watch anywhere. Especially after you’ve locked yourself in your room to get away from fam.
14. Love Actually
Starring all your fave Brits, this movie has something in it for everyone. For me, there’s Hugh Grant. Yeah, that’s basically the only reason I love this movie, but it follows eight different couples during the hectic month before Christmas.
