11 celebs you probably didn’t know were vegan

While most of the time we are ridiculed for our eating habits, or made fun of for being softies, today is a day for celebrating the shit out of our plant-based diets.

I fucking love being vegan. I love the weird looks I get when I tell people, I love the questions I get, like “are eggs vegan?” (not even kidding, more people than I can count have asked me this).

But the best part is feeling like you’re in with the celebs, because not-so-shockingly, most of them lead a plant-based life. It’s probably because they can afford the vegan food that actually tastes good, and private chefs to cook all their food. But it’s still something I have in common with the rich and famous nonetheless.

Here are 11 celebs who are animal product-free.

1. Alicia Silverstone

The “Clueless” babe went vegan when she was 21 to combat health issues like acne, asthma and insomnia. “I used to have all those white marks on my nails and they were very brittle, and now they’re so strong I cannot bend them,” she says. “My eyes got really white, and I feel like I look less puffy,” she told Oprah.

2. Natalie Portman

The Harvard grad wrote in a blog for the Huffington Post that Jonathan Safran Foer’s book “Eating Animals” changed her so much that she went from vegetarian to being vegan.

“The human cost of factory farming — both the compromised welfare of slaughterhouse workers and, even more, the environmental effects of the mass production of animals — is staggering,” Natalie wrote.

3. Ariana Grande

Aside from the donut licking incident, Ariana Grande has been vegan for three years. She tweeted back in 2013 about her choice to go vegan, saying, “Yeah, it’s definitely something to celebrate. My heart feels very happy with this decision.”

4. Pamela Anderson

Pamela is so vegan that a few weeks ago, she was allegedly accused of murdering WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange with a vegan sandwich.

Obviously, it ended up being a hoax. My sister also accused me of trying to murder her when I offered her tofu.

5. Ellie Goulding

Ellie told Look magazine that her vegan diet helped with more than just her health. It also helped her confidence.

“Before, I had a flat bum, no boobs and not much shape,” Ellie said. “I’m way more womanly now. I’m a bit more confident with my body. I put it down to eating amazingly well. Now my body’s different, my face shape is different and my eyes are brighter, too.”

You should also follow Ellie’s private chef on Instagram, because it’s so awesome for meal ideas and restaurants to try with vegan options.

6. Bill Clinton

After having several heart problems in 2004, including a quadruple bypass surgery, the former president Bill Clinton went vegan to get healthy.

“All my blood tests are good, and my vital signs are good, and I feel good, and I also have, believe it or not, more energy,” Bill said to CNN in 2011.

7. Miley Cyrus

If you follow Miley on any sort of social media, you know she is so proud of her vegan diet. She also talked about it extensively in her Paper magazine feature, and she said, “As long as you’re not hurting anyone, your choices are your choices.”

8. Liam Hemsworth

Miley’s hunky Aussie boo Liam is also vegan! He told Men’s Health that since switching to a vegan diet, he feels “nothing but positive, mentally and physically. I love it. I feel like it also has a kind of a domino effect on the rest of my life.”

9. Lea Michele

Like every other vegan, Lea Michele has had to deal with critics asking her if all she eats is grass. We’ve all been there, like on Thanksgiving especially.

10. Prince

The late Prince was really strict about his diet, including veganism. At the end of his album “Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic,” Prince recites a quote from Gandhi that says “to my mind, the life of a lamb is no less precious than that of a human being.”

11. Olivia Wilde

Although she has had to quit her vegan diet during her pregnancies, Olivia Wilde says it helps her feel much better. “[Being vegan] is not always easy and accessible, but it’s a way of life and makes me as a person feel really good and physically look better,” Wilde said according to the Huffington Post.
