This Weird Healthy Snack Is Khloe Kardashian’s New Favorite

If you’ve ever taken the whole “eat lots of small meals all day to speed up your metabolism” approach to eating, you know how it feels to be the queen of snacks. You’ve also probably realized that healthy snacking is harder than it looks. After all, even some of the “healthy” labeled snacks such as trail mix and granola can be loaded in sugars, fats, and calories if eaten in higher portions.

But thanks to Keeping Up With the Kardashians, we’ve discovered a healthy snack that most people have never even heard of: TigerNuts.

In the last episode of this season’s Keeping Up With The Kardashians, you may have noticed a little pouch peeking out from behind Khloe’s snakeskin bag.

So, what has Khloe Kardashian been snacking on to keep her energized during her new fitness frenzy? TigerNuts.

They kind of sound like some weird fruit that you’d feed your Neopet (if you’ve fed yours in the last ten years, bravo), but they’re not. Plus, they’re not made from tigers or nuts. They’re technically vegetables.

While Tigernuts have a nutty taste, texture, and size; they are actually nutrient-dense tubers, similar to roots like potatoes. So TigerNuts are free of nuts, gluten, and GMOs on top of the fact that they are paleo-friendly.

“Our earliest ancestors, over two million years ago, relied heavily on this root that fueled 80% of their diet,” claims Ludovica Paravia of Organic Gemini, the brand that sells these mysterious TigerNuts.

But, do they actually taste good? While I’m certainly not the pickiest eater (meaning I’ll essentially eat anything put on my plate), I can honestly say that this snack satisfies my craving for something sweet and crunchy, which is awesome because I’d much rather grab a handful of these than a handful of sugary cereal or something similar.

If you compare TigerNuts to a real nut, such as an almond (one of the healthiest nuts), you’ll see that TigerNuts hold fewer calories per ounce (120 as compared to 163) and half the fat (7 g instead of 14 g). If you’re not into nut-type snacks, Organic Gemini also makes a TigerNut horchata. Let me just tell you, it’s banging. If you haven’t had horchata before, perhaps you’ve had Rumchata, the alcoholic step-sister. Think that, but a healthy version.

If you’re interested in trying TigerNuts for yourself, you can buy them on Amazon. And if they’re going to make you look anything even remotely close to Khloe Kardashian, you really have nothing to lose.
