See pics of Galore’s first ever Girl Cult festival!
From speakers like Tyra Banks, Kimora Lee Simmons, Gigi Gorgeous and Debby Ryan to performances from Chloe x Halle and Willow Smith, we covered every aspect of girl power and celebrated womanhood in all its forms. Some of our fave brands like sponsors Nasty Gal and Lime Crime set up shop at the fest, and it was also sponsored by Charlesbridge Teen Publishing and put on with Golden Voice and Lexie Jiaras’ Friends production company.
Kimora Lee Simmons and her daughters Ming Lee and Aoki rocked the crowd with a talk about empowerment. Kimora dropped some serious knowledge on how feminism’s about more than just financial equality.
“I used to think [female empowerment] was about just making your own money, but it goes beyond that,” she said. “It’s about what you want to invest your time and passion and energy into.”
“She said, ‘Write em down, the ones that like ass…. that like your ass, because your ass is getting bigger, and I’ll be damned if my baby starves for this damn industry,'” Tyra said.
Willow Smith , rocking some serious statement makeup, performed a song called “November 9th,” which she wrote the day after Donald Trump was elected president. Before her performance, she talked about today’s political climate.
“There’s so much fear and hatred going on in the world,” she said. “It makes me realize now, even more, why I love to do this and why this fills my heart and my soul. It makes me feel grateful for all of you out there and places like this that just look at people for their creativity and their uniqueness. It’s where it’s going down.”
