Sam Finger’s “Heat Wave” | NYFW SS24 (Recap)
New York City based designer, Sam Finger, designs seductive apparel spanning from utilitarian basics to deconstructed couture. Inspired by diversity and sustainability, Sam Finger’s collections are characterized by gender inclusivity, ethically produced materials, and artisanal dye practices. This SS24 NYFW, SAM FINGER joins the CFDA calendar for the first time with his second collection entitled, HEAT WAVE. The Collection is a maturation from the designer’s up-cycling roots, with an expansive ready-to-wear collection that includes alluring womenswear pieces, mens workwear essentials, and unisex styling. Sam Finger continues his commitment to sustainability using organic, recycled and ethically produced natural fibers.
The brand’s origins in up-cycling and one-of-a-kind pieces has evolved into a substantial ready-to-wear collection including alluring womens pieces, mens workwear essentials, and unisex styling. In Sam’s words,
“This collection explores the social impacts of how we dress in today’s dystopian era of global warming, culture wars, and the rise of artificial intelligence.” Keeping true to the designers mission, the collection promotes, supports, and celebrates individual expression. This season, the brand takes its ethos surrounding inclusivity one step further with an even more diverse cast of varying body types, ethnicities, abilities, and orientations.
Sam’s collection consists of ethically made and eco-friendly new garments. Deadstock suiting fabrics, ethically produced cottons and linens from Argentina are paired with newly explored tailoring and organic draping. Signature up-cycled tanks are reimagined via contouring of fabric by hand, as if drawing on the body with the creases and folds of the material.
This collection is an ode to the New York City that shaped Sam, and also honors the NYC of today:
I’m excited by what I see happening in today’s community and its progressive evolution. I want this line to be a celebration of the diversity and freedom of expression I see exploding from the seams in New York.
