RISING ACTOR IVAN AMOZURRUTIA IS ONE TO WATCH!
Mexican-born actor Ivan Amozurrutia @ivan_amoz is one to watch. The rising actor, best known for his role in Netflix’s “The Manny,” gives us an exclusive interview; we chat all about the start of his career, his leading roles, and what’s next for the young actor. Read more below!

TELL US ABOUT HOW YOU GET INTO ACTING.
Well, I started acting after I finished high school, but I have to say that it started when I was
very young. My grandmother was a big actress here in Mexico, and she was the first to take my brother, who is an actor, to the theater and me. So from there, even
though I was very young, I remember watching Peter Pan. Something was amazing
about the theater. Growing up with my mother, who is also a fan of theater, movies, and
series. So yeah, I have a big background in that matter. You know, since I was a child, I have always had a lot of interesting things going on. I’ve always loved dancing and singing. My
brother started acting before me, so also seeing him in plays was an inspiration just as
much as my grandmother, so I would have to say, like yeah, it was like in the family in a
way, you know, I was always surrounded by it so yeah when I finished high school, and I was
like deciding what to do I thought this is my path so it was cool because
when I got into school, and I just had my first class of acting, I just felt so happy and I was
sure that this is what I wanted to do.
WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST ACTING JOB
So my first acting job was actually when I was still starting acting in the artistic center, that
would be the translation and it was called La Rosa Guadalupe, which is the most-watched Telenovela in Mexico. It’s really good because every chapter there’s a different
cast, so when you’re starting acting, it’s actually really helpful for you to understand, like How
to act in front of the camera, how to move in front of the camera, etc. So yeah that was my
first gig, but my first bigger role was another telenovela. It was called In Love with Ramon. I
played Young Dylan.
HOW DID THE ROLE IN THE HIT SERIES THE MANNY COME ABOUT WITH NETFLIX
Well, with the Manny, I would have to say that it was very normal, like other castings.
So I got the casting from my agency, but I do remember reading the whole storyline and
really falling in love with the whole idea of doing a series that was very familiar at that time. It
has been a while since I acted in a comedy series, so I was very excited to do it. I do
remember when I read the character Gabriel, thinking that he is a very sensitive guy and he
has a motto of trying to change the world. I fell in love with the story and I do remember
like Doing my best for the casting, and I mean, that’s always the case but you know I really
wanted to stay in the series.
HAVE YOU EVER DATED AN OLDER WOMAN IF SO WHAT WAS THAT LIKE
Well, if you say like an older woman, like much older, no, actually no, but for example, my ex
she was almost 3 years older than me, so yeah, that would be my only relationship in that
way, cause pretty much all other girlfriends were younger than me.
YOU ARE CURRENTLY IN LOVE HOW DID YOU MEET YOUR NOVIA
So I met my girlfriend because we have a friend in common. She’s a fashion designer and a
model, and she was working with our friend for a shoot I found that as the perfect excuse
to talk to her, so I saw her Instagram, and we started talking. One day I posted a video of me
singing with my guitar, and she really liked that, which was also a good part of why she
answered me. Then we talked for some days until we finally saw each other on a date and
from there we just Fell in love like really hard for each other and we’ve been together for
quite some months.
WHAT IS YOUR SKIN CARE ROUTINE
Well, my Skincare routine is not as elaborate, but I have some products that I don’t use
every day. Normally I wash my face in the morning with cold water, I put maybe some
moisturizing cream to hydrate my skin, and obviously, before I go out, I always try to wear
sunscreen to protect my skin cause I have very sensitive skin. Also I have some serums
for my eyes and for my whole face, but I don’t use that every day. I try to use it like every
three days because I also think that if you customize your body and use all those products
every day you stop producing them naturally. So yeah, that’s my routine.
WHAT TRENDS ARE YOU LOVING AT THE MOMENT
Well, one of the bigger trends I would have to say is maybe the oversized quotes; I love them.
It’s pretty much like everything in my wardrobe. I’m also a sneakerhead, so I love shoes,
specifically Jordans. I have a big collection, around 60 pairs of sneakers, which is pretty
much my style.
WHAT IS YOUR DREAM ACTING ROLE
My dream role, and I’ve always said this, would be something that would involve some sort of
work with swords or maybe also a warrior, for example gladiator or something like that. I’ve
always loved it since I was a kid. Also, I am a superhero fan; if they offer me a really good
character, especially if I’m a fan of that comic book or something, that would be a
complete honor, and that would be a dream.
WHO ARE YOUR HEROES
My heroes are my mom and my dad, for sure, for everything they have done for me and all
the things they taught me. I could not have asked for better parents, but also I would have
to say my brothers and sisters I have 7 of them, and each one of them has taught me a lot
of different things and a lot of things, I feel very lucky to have a big family, I would say they
are all my heroes.
WHAT IS NEXT FOR YOU IN ACTING
What is next for me in acting? Well actually right now I’m currently shooting the second
season of The Nanny here in Guadalajara right here right now. I feel very lucky, and I’m very happy to have the opportunity to keep doing a show that I love. The second season will also
be really cool, and getting to see all the Cast and all the crew and meeting new, really cool
people. I love the series, and I love the character, so being able to do it for a second season
HOW DOES HOLLYWOOD DIFFER FROM MEXICO TELEVISION WORLD
Well, I mean, I guess, of course, Hollywood has all these big-budget projects. there’s a
lot of talent there, so yeah, I mean, we all know that Hollywood is the top of the top; as an
actor, you have a goal, and it’s to be in Hollywood; it’s a big objective. They have a huge
audience all over the world. But Mexico is also getting there; they are producing many of shows and new movies in different genres, so it is
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE YOUR 17-YEAR-OLD SELF
What advice would I give to my 17-year-old self? Well, I mean in many things I think that the
whole path we have in life it’s the things that sometimes you’re not so happy with and the
things that sometimes you think you would change. But I wouldn’t because every part of the
process led me to where I am now. Always do it and always try your best. Nothing is for
granted, you have to work for everything you want. Treat people how you wanna be treated
and keep working on your stuff. I would also say enjoy every moment because sometimes
you’ll find yourself stuck and there will be moments where you’re not gonna feel fulfilled but
that’s what life is about. Sometimes we are too worried about achieving something and we
get to achieve that something, and then it’s like, well, now what, that is why it is important
to always have goals and enjoy the process.
