[PREMIERE]: Taylor Grey’s New Video For “Never Woulda Letcha”

Taylor Grey isn’t afraid to sing about the uglier, more honest side to love. Her genre is an upbeat alternative pop, but she sings about secret crushes, wanting love she won’t requite, and what to do in a relationship that isn’t working for her. At 19 years old, Taylor is set to release her EP “SPACE CASE” while currently attending Stanford University. “Never Woulda Letcha” is a song we can all relate to about our secret crushes. Watch the exclusive premiere below!

Where do you gather your inspiration for your music?

Everyday life and drawing from those experiences. I truly believe in writing what feels right to me in the moment. Sometimes that means writing songs with unconventional messages – I have a song about wanting someone to like you even though you have no intention of reciprocating feelings.

Wow yeah, that’s definitely a different and honest experience!

It may not be a general pop song message, but it’s honest and it’s me, and I know there is at least one person out there who will relate.

How did you come up with the concept for this song?

I’ve never been great at being upfront about my feelings so I often find myself in situations involving secret crushes. And I’ve had feelings for a long-time friend before so the concept came pretty naturally.

Do you think many girls can relate to this topic?

I think a lot of people in general can relate! I think almost everyone has that one person in their life that was just a little off limits, the “what if” of their romantic life. So in that sense, I feel like it’s a really relatable song.

What was your favorite scene to shoot?

I loved the entire shoot front to back, so it is really hard to choose. The freeze frame shots were amazing because I got to see my idea come to life, but I think my real answer would have to be the shots when I just got to go crazy dancing on a bed full of stuffed animals and a hairbrush microphone. I always dance alone in my room so it felt very real and very fun!

Were you able to communicate your vision to the director, Sarah McColgan?

Yes, Sarah was absolutely incredible. Her artistic vision and mine were completely in sync, and her ideas are beyond amazing.

What was your favorite look in the video?

My favorite look was the party scene outfit with the silver sparkly shirt and black skirt. I actually got to keep the clothes because the outfit was so me and definitely something I would wear!

What topics are you going to discuss next in your music?

Oh gosh, everything. My debut EP SPACE CASE has more love songs, you’ll get to hear about everything from unrequited love to the electricity of a new romance. You’ll get to hear about heartbreak from both sides, the pain of loss, but also what it’s like to fall out of love. There are songs about independence and being better off without someone who treated you poorly. I have songs about being a little “out there,” and having visions that the people around you don’t always understand.
