Perrin Johnson on Creating Without a Rulebook

Hola, Galore! Gigi here to spill an exclusive Interview with Galore’s very own –Perrin Johnson.

Perrin Johnson is a Virginia/New York–based visual artist, producer, and post-production editor working at the intersection of fashion, culture, and digital storytelling. Known professionally as EditsbyPerry, Perrin’s work spans editorial direction, image-making, and world-building — often blurring the lines between fantasy and reality.

An editor at Galore and the founder of HOMMEHEART, Perrin’s work lives at the intersection of identity, intimacy, and visual narrative. Whether collaborating with celebrities or building speculative brand worlds, his approach is guided by curiosity and collaboration—creating room for stories that exist beyond permission or precedent. With bylines at Galore and Teen Vogue, and creative work for brands including BoohooMAN, Marc Jacobs, and Poster Girl London, this Virginia-born creative is quietly, confidently claiming his seat at the table.

FEATURED INTERVIEW:

Gigi: You do a lot — editing, producing, building worlds. How do you usually explain what you do to someone who’s never heard of you?

Perrin:
I usually say I help ideas become real — visually. My work lives in that space between concept and execution. Sometimes that looks like post-production, sometimes creative direction, sometimes building an entire world around a single image. I’m obsessed with how visuals make people feel, not just how they look. Over the last 10+ years, my partner and boyfriend, William, has envisioned worlds with me, and together we make magic.

Gigi: You work for Galore, which is kind of an iconic title in its own right. What does that mean to you?

Perrin:
Working at Galore feels surreal, honestly. It’s a magazine that never played it safe, and that energy still exists. Being part of a team that champions women, culture, and bold visuals — while trusting my eye — is incredibly affirming. It’s taught me how important it is to protect creative instincts, even when the industry gets loud. My editor, Prince, has taught me so much. Everyone at Galore, like my girl, Taylor, is the best support system behind the scenes.

Gigi: You collaborate often with your partner, William. What’s special about working together creatively?

Perrin:
William and I see the world differently, and that’s the magic. We push each other, challenge ideas, and refine them without ego. Collaboration, for me, is about safety and honesty. When that exists, the work always feels stronger and more intentional.

Gigi: HOMMEHEART feels very personal. What’s the vision behind it?

Perrin:
HOMMEHEART is about softness, strength, and storytelling without rules. It’s a space where masculinity and femininity blur, where beauty is emotional, and where voices that are often overlooked get the spotlight. I wanted to build something that felt like a conversation — not an instruction manual.

Gigi: Who or what inspires you right now?

Perrin:
People who build worlds unapologetically. Old magazines. 90s sleeze. Internet culture. Women who own their contradictions. And honestly — moments of stillness. Inspiration doesn’t always come from references; sometimes it comes from paying attention.

Gigi: What’s coming next for you?

Perrin:
More storytelling, bigger worlds, and deeper collaborations. I’m focused on expanding HOMMEHEART, creating more editorial-driven visual projects, and continuing to work with artists and brands who want to push beyond the obvious. I’m not interested in doing more — I’m interested in doing things that matter.
