L’Oreal Announced a History-Making Black Model as Its New Spokeswoman

Maria Borges made history when she became the first black woman to walk in the Victoria’s Secret fashion show with her natural hair, and now she’s the new spokesmodel for L’Oreal.

“I believe in the beauty of diversity,” Maria said in a press release. “And the empowering message that a girl who started from the bottom can be an international beauty symbol and be living proof that our dreams are valid and the future ahead of us is bright.”

What a beautiful sentiment.

And how nice to see L’Oreal choosing a spokesmodel who isn’t another blonde-haired, blue-eyed white girl.

From one Maria to another, congrats, girl.

Make our name proud.
