#TBT: Watch Kim Kardashian’s ‘Sexy’ Baby Got Back Dance From 2008
Once upon a time in 2008, Kim Kardashian was a universally HATED figure.
Keeping Up With the Kardashians had only been on the air for one year, and Kim was in desperate need of some good PR so people would stop thinking of her as just that dumb chick who got famous off of a sex tape.
So in 2008 Kim decided to do two things to try and fix that:
She was going to make a cameo in the disaster film spoof Disaster Movie, which ended up making $34 million at the box office.
And she was going to be a contestant on one of the hottest, but tasteful reality show competitions on the air: Dancing With the Stars.
Sadly, that last idea didn’t pan out so well for Kim, and she’s often remembered as one of the worst contestants on the history of DWTS, which to be completely honest, isn’t fair to her at all.
True Kim wasn’t a great dancer, but as a fan of the show, I can assure you that there have been A LOT worse contestants with Kim. Specifically Bill Nye, who somehow managed to stay on Season 17 for three episodes despite the fact that he couldn’t do any steps more complicated than the robot.
Sadly, Kim was eliminated in just the second week of competition, for her misguided mambo to Sir Mix-A-Lot’s classic booty anthem, “Baby Got Back.”
Obviously, this seems like it should have been a slam dunk for Kimmy, but poor bb hadn’t learned how to work with what her mamma gave her yet.
“Everyone’s gonna expect this like, sexy thing, and I’m really not,” Kim confessed. “My biggest challenge with the mambo is just shaking my butt. Everyone thinks I know how, and I just really don’t. I really think I need Booty 101.”
“It’s like watching paint dry,” her professional dancer partner remarked.
And it probably didn’t help that when it came time to perform, instead of playing the actual song, “Dancing With the Stars” just had somebody in their band rap live for the show, and let’s just say homeboy had no swag.
