GIRLSET on Finding Their Voice, Sisterhood and Their Fearless New Era
After navigating change, uncertainty and a major evolution from VCHA to GIRLSET, Lexi, Camila, Kendall and Savanna are stepping into a new chapter with a clearer sense of who they are—and what they want to say. Built on individuality, sisterhood and a newfound creative freedom, GIRLSET represents four young artists determined to define success on their own terms.
Their latest release, “CHAT”, brings that confidence to the forefront with an unapologetic message about tuning out outside opinions and staying true to yourself. As the group looks toward 2027, GIRLSET opens up about finding their artistic voice, embracing each member’s individuality, the sisterhood holding them together and why they’re more interested in making music they believe in than chasing the next big moment.
FEATURE INTERVIEW:
When you went from VCHA to GIRLSET, what was the most unexpected thing you learned about yourselves—like the “oh wow, we’re actually like this ”moment?
Lexi: When we were in VCHA, we were just starting our journey. So as time passed, we were slowly discovering more about ourselves. As we experienced the early stages of being artists, it helped us better understand what we wanted to create and achieve. Although a lot of thought and time went into the rebrand, we also had a pretty clear vision of what we wanted for ourselves on this new path.
When we first started all of this, we were very young and still very new to everything. I think it’s a given for many artists who are just starting out to discover themselves more over time. Although we were new to the industry, we all came from unique backgrounds, and through the rebrand, we were able to find those parts of ourselves again. It felt amazing and almost surprising to realize what we were capable of when the planning for the rebrand came around. Having a voice and being able to do something with it was so empowering. We were always aware of what we originally brought to the table, but really tapping into our artistry was so eye-opening.
GIRLSET is about setting your own path. What does that look like in practice—creative decisions, fashion choices, fan interactions, all of it?
Camila: I think it’s about slowly figuring out what we want to portray as a group. We’re still in the early stages of GIRLSET’s journey, so right now we’re in a very important era. Making sure that we’re staying true to ourselves and that we stick to what we love. Finding the right balance of giving people what they want but doing so without losing who we are and the music that we want to make. I think we still have so much to show and so many things that we want to explore. I feel like GIRLSET will evolve and become something great.
Your story isn’t a straight line—health, changes, pause, reset. How did you turn all that uncertainty into confidence you can actually feel on stage?
Camila: Definitely! We’ve had some big moments of change and uncertainty, but I think that’s what has made us so strong and determined. I believe that we needed those moments – it made us grow so much into who we are today. It also unlocked a creative side of us that we didn’t expect, especially in songwriting and creating music. I think we did our best work after we went through that situation.
If “CHAT” is a vibe you could describe in one sentence, what would it be—and what’s the emotional mood behind it?
Lexi: “CHAT” is a hype and energetic song that definitely gives you a sense of confidence and encourages you to not care about what others have to say. The world right now revolves so much around social media, and people feel comfortable saying basically anything on the internet. People are always going to have something to say no matter what, so all you can do is continue being unapologetically you.
What are your favorite lyrics from CHAT ?
Kendall: Honestly, some of my favorite lyrics are probably “Only room for 4 up in the photo, you can’t sit here”, and “All that talk, all the smoke, give it to me.” I like these both for different reasons, the first quote because it’s on the more unserious side of lyrics we have done – which is fun. However it still has meaning about how GIRLSET is the 4 of us, so take it or leave it. The second quote is more about how no matter what anyone says (especially on the internet) I can still live my life unaffected.
You all have different vibes/aura types. How do you keep your individuality—when recording or coming up with ideas?
Savanna: That’s definitely a big thing for us. We always make sure everyone feels like their individuality is shown and reflected in everything we do. We want everyone to be able to be themselves within the group. When it comes to recording songs, it’s not too hard for us as we all have such different tones and vibes. We usually know who gravitates towards which parts and make sure everyone feels good and resonates with what they’re singing. As for creative ideas, we always discuss with the 4 of us first and luckily, we do tend to be on the same page about the vision a lot of the time.
What’s your philosophy on sisterhood as a band?
Camila: It was very clear to us from the beginning that the only way that a group could work out and last was through sisterhood. Thankfully it wasn’t something that we had to force. From the start, we genuinely really cared for each other. Like with any other friends or siblings, we’ve definitely had situations where there might be misunderstandings, but we’ve always made sure to communicate, listen and improve ourselves to make sure that we’re team players and a good support system for one another. I love my girls so much – they’re like my family and I’ve learned to adapt and I’m always looking to improve myself to be a better friend and sister to them.
Missy Elliott being on “Little Miss” was life-changing. If you could collaborate with any artist at the moment, who would it be and why?
Savanna: I think it could be different for everyone, but I could really see us doing something with FLO. We’re really inspired by them and who they are as artists so it would be such an honor to collab with them!
What’s your mindset about “big moments”—are you chasing them, or letting them happen?
Kendall: I would definitely say the 4 of us are intent on letting them happen. It is very expected in this industry to “chase hits” or try to “manufacture hits” but at the moment we are very focused on trying to find what we want to share to our audiences and speaking through our music. Being proud of what we put out is more important to us than chasing anything.
If GIRLSET had a group chat—what’s the group’s funniest rule? And who’s most likely to start chaos?
Kendall: Honestly it’s hard for me to name even an unserious rule because anything and everyone goes. As for who is most likely to start chaos? I feel like our group chat is mostly chill because of the fact that anything chaotic we would just talk about in person because we see each other all the time. Maybe there are some funny reels that get sent but I would say that could be from any of us truly.
Who are your SHEROES in music and life?
Savanna: For me personally, right now it’s definitely Tyla. I love her vibe and how she’s always herself no matter what in every area, and that’s something I strive to do all the time as an artist. In life, right now I would say my sister. There’s been recent changes in her life and she’s been so strong and present during it all, I can’t help but notice that and admire it.
What is next for GIRLSET going into 2027?
Lexi: Going into 2027, it’d definitely be creating more music and continuing to evolve and expand our artistry in many ways. We’re constantly being inspired by the world around us and by the artists and experiences that surround us, so we’re always excited to see where that inspiration takes us next.
There are still so many different things we want to explore – whether that’s through our music, visuals, performances, or even the way we express ourselves as artists. We’re always eager to step outside of our comfort zones, try new things, and challenge ourselves creatively. I think that’s one of the most exciting parts about this journey—there’s still so much more for us to discover, and we can’t wait to share that with everyone.
