Guys Like Smart Women In Theory, But Not IRL
While girls are getting smarter, guys are getting more insecure.
Guys like to say that they’re totally chill with a girlfriend who makes more money than them, is smarter than them, etc. And yet IRL it seems the only thing they want is for their girlfriend to be hotter (like way hotter) than them.
In fact, while guys may say they want a woman who is smarter than them, they actually don’t, according to a recent study.
The study consisted of two experiments on men. In the first, “a woman either outperformed or underperformed them in a math or English course, and then instructed the men to imagine this woman as a romantic partner.” In this experiment, men were more likely to rate the woman higher.
In the second, men were given an intelligence test and then introduced to a woman who they were told had outperformed them on the test. In this experiment, men “distanced themselves more from her, tended to rate her as less attractive, and showed less desire to exchange contact information or plan a date with her.”
The researchers concluded that while men are chill with dating a smarter woman in theory, they’re actually super not comfortable with dating a smarter woman in IRL.
Sure, the study only consisted of 105 men, which isn’t a huge sample size, but we wouldn’t be surprised if similar results came out from a bigger experiment. After all, guys don’t know WTF they want, and we all know one (or many) dudes with super fragile masculinity.
The solution? Date dudes who aren’t self-important assholes and can handle the fact that their babe has a higher than them IQ and looks way better in a swimsuit. Problem solved!
