Donald Trump Is Down for ‘Transgenders’ to Use Whatever Bathroom They Want
Donald Trump shocked us and probably appalled his fans by saying this morning that transgender people should be able to use whatever bathrooms they want.
This has become a hot topic thanks to North Carolina’s law allowing public restroom discrimination based on gender assignment at birth. The idea that transgender people are a threat to public restroom safety is a conservative one, so you’d think Trump would pander to his base by agreeing that transgender people should follow strict rules on which bathroom they can use. But apparently, that’s not the case. Good job, Donald?
The truth came out on the Today show this morning, when host Matt Lauer asked Donald Trump what he would do if Caitlyn Jenner, a transgender woman, tried to use whatever bathroom she wanted at Trump Tower. Trump said he’d let her use whichever one she wanted. (This is a meeting of the reality TV minds we’d love to witness, but that’s another issue.)
He went on to add:
“There’s a big move to create new bathrooms… First of all, I think that would be discriminatory in a certain way. It would be unbelievably expensive for businesses and the country. Leave it the way it is.”
He also pointed out that there haven’t really been any examples of violence or other issues occurring because a transgender person used a certain bathroom.
He also added that he’s for raising taxes on the wealthy and allowing women to have abortions in cases of rape, incest, or to protect the life of the mother, but didn’t say whether he’d seek to ban abortion or not. Oh, and he thinks putting Harriet Tubman on the $20 is an act of “political correctness.” We’d say keeping Andrew Jackson on the back of the bill for no reason is way more PC, but whatever.
All in all, it’s a confusing interview. Donald Trump might be more open-minded than we gave him credit for — or he just realizes adding gender neutral bathrooms would be a costly and pretty pointless project to pin on property owners.
Or he really has been hiding some politically liberal leanings this whole time. Guess time will tell — and we can’t wait to see how Trump fans react to this one.
