Anaya Roderick Didn’t Need a Fashion Degree To Launch Her Own Clothing Biz

Anaya Roderick is a wardrobe stylist, brand ambassador, and YouTuber from Queens, New York.

She got her start from posting pictures on Tumblr and making Vine videos (RIP). From this, her brand NayaVista took off and she hasn’t looked back since. Check out our interview with this boss babe below.

What made you start your own business?

It all started when I had a Tumblr page. I would post pictures of myself daily in different outfits and looks. My followers would always ask me where I shopped or got my clothes and accessories from, so I decided to create NayaVista.

Why did you start a Youtube channel and what are things you do on your channel?

I started a YouTube channel for fun a few years ago. I always wanted to make videos for girls like myself that needed a positive role model or for someone they can just relate to. As of this summer I decided to take my YouTube platform more seriously. My channel is still developing, I have hair reviews, make up tutorials, and other videos to express and show my personality.

What made you become a brand ambassador and what do you like most about being one?

Being a brand ambassador kind of just happened. People would notice the type of attention I would receive based on clothing items. Companies would reach out to collaborate which is dope to see my style is noticed. I enjoy working with other companies and brands to push out creative ideas.

How did you find your personal style and how does that reflect in your brand?

I found my personal style by just doing me. When I say doing me, I mean it. Not following trends, but creating my own, challenging myself to try out different looks. My style is fun and free, I’m constantly changing my look. My personal style helps with my brand because of the way I style my pieces on me vs. the way I style my models in my pieces are different, which helps people identify my brand and stye with me.

What are some goals you’ve set for your company and personal brand?

One of my major goals for my brand and business is to open a physical store. Longevity is what I’m aiming for. I want to leave a legacy behind my name and brand. Just trying to do things differently or more creatively than the next person who is doing what I’m doing.

What are your favorite wardrobe items?

My favorite wardrobe item will have to be heels. I’m a shoe whore. I love shoes. It seriously can make or break an outfit in my eyes.

What tips do you have for young women looking to increase their social media following?

Be yourself, and not to take things so seriously. Originality is the key. Overall, being consistent is what helps.

What’s something about you your supporters may not know?

I did not go to a fashion school or take any fashion related courses. I get that question a lot.

What tips do you have for anyone looking to join the fashion and beauty industry?

To keep in mind that everyone is fighting for the same attention you want. Find out what your “it” factor is and what makes you different, stand out from the rest and perfect your talent and skill.

Who would you like to collaborate with in the future?

I would love to collaborate with someone like J.Lo. She has been someone who has branded herself over the years and she is still relevant to this day. Her style is amazing, she never disappoints me.

What do you love the most about being popular on and off social media?

Meeting my supporters and having them tell me that I inspire them. That’s the best feeling, knowing I can have an impact doing what I love and to motivate and uplift women to follow their dreams. Looking fly and having confidence while doing it. They express this to me on social media and in person, which is really dope.

Whats some tips for entrepreneurs just starting their companies?

Do research and make a blueprint plan. Think long term with anything you put your time, energy, and money into, and have fun with it.

What do you want your supporters to take from this interview?

That we are the same. I decided to believe in myself to achieve my goals and dreams and that is the first step when doing anything in life. Anyone can do whatever it is they want in life, just gotta eliminate fear and go after what you want.
