FEATURE INTERVIEW:
TALK TO US ABOUT YOUR LATEST SINGLE.
My new album, “En Esta Nos Fuimos Lejos” is something I’m really excited about. It has a diverse sound and features collaborations with some incredible artists. The music videos explore a darker world, which reflects my growth and evolution in music. I hope this resonates with the fans and shows them a new side of my artistry.
WHEN DID YOU FALL IN LOVE WITH MUSIC?
I fell in love with music at a young age. It became a way for me to express my emotions and connect with the world. Music has always been my outlet, and through it, I’ve been able to share my journey and experiences with my fans.
YOU RECENTLY WERE ON TOUR THIS SUMMER, WHAT WERE SOME OF YOUR FAVORITE STOPS?
Yes, we just came back from a 15-festival tour in Spain. It was incredible and crazy to see thousands of fans singing every lyric of my songs. As someone coming from a small island like Puerto Rico, witnessing that kind of love and support so far from home is surreal. I can’t say which spot was my favorite, but I can say that every place had its own charm and left me with unforgettable memories. It makes me feel like we’re definitely heading in the right direction, and it’s a testament to the connection my music is making with people all over the world.
WHAT LYRIC FROM ONE OF YOUR SONGS HITS CLOSE TO HOME?
This is a good one. Not a PG-13 song, we can say, but “Wiki Wiki” with Jowell from my recent album could be the song that hits closest to home. It has most of the elements that represent what reggaetón is all about—its energy, rhythm, and vibe. It’s a must-hear, especially if you want to have a good time and really feel the essence of what we bring to the table in reggaetón.
WHAT IS THE INSPIRATION BEHIND THE SONG “WIKIWIKI”?
I wanted to capture that unique vibe and energy that defines our music. Collaborating with Jowell was a dream come true because he’s one of the greatest of all time and truly understands the roots of reggaetón. His contribution brought an authentic touch to the track. I’ll give you an exclusive here—we might be working on a remix that will take the song to another level.
WHO ARE SOME OF YOUR MUSICAL HEREOS?
There are so many, from Wisin y Yandel to the new generation like Eladio Carrión. Each of them has contributed so much to what I love about the reggaetón industry today. But a story I always talk about is Nicky Jam’s. The way he managed to return after the fallout he had inspires me a lot to never quit. His journey shows that no matter how hard things get, you can always make a comeback if you stay dedicated and true to your passion. It’s a powerful reminder that resilience and perseverance are key in this industry.
WHEN YOU GOT YOUR DEAL WHAT WAS THE FIRST BIG EXPENSIVE THING YOU PURCHASED?
Let me think. The first big expensive thing I bought was a studio setup for my house. I wanted a space where I could create music anytime I wanted. After that, I bought my first car so I didn’t have to depend on carpooling anymore. Oh, and a Cartier watch, but unfortunately, it got stolen. Those were big milestones for me and really helped me focus more on my music.
WHAT LYRIC FROM YOUR SONG “ROTONDA” HITS THE HARDEST FOR YOU?
Let me see, from “Rotonda” I think this part hits the hardest: ‘No coge fia’o, pero ese culo me prestó. Anda en película. Escucha Dei V, tiene su matrícula. Que tiene novio y sus amiga’ nunca dicen na.’ I feel like I managed to summarize the whole meaning of the song in just these lines. I’ll let the fans draw their own conclusions about the meaning, haha.
WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON THE CURRENT CLIMATE OF REGGAETON?
I have very different opinions on the current climate of reggaetón. I feel we need to make more of it and stay true to its roots. It’s the essence of what our genre is. At least from my end, I will never stop creating and promoting authentic reggaetón.
HOW IS YOUR CREATIVITY DISRUPTING THE CULTURE OF REGGAETON MUSIC?
I don’t think my creativity is disrupting the culture of reggaetón music. On the contrary, I believe I am just adding new tools to it without losing its essence. Each generation is going to bring its own flow to reggaetón. The important thing is to remember where it came from and how it began. But I also believe it’s crucial for each generation to bring updates and innovations to it. That’s what will mark the difference and keep the genre alive and thriving.
WHAT’S YOUR DREAM MUSIC COLLABORATION?
There are so many that I think I wouldn’t stop talking about it. I just love music and what other creators bring to the table. But someone I’m really looking out for is Nicky Jam. One of my goals this year is to end with at least a studio session with him. It’s going to happen.
YOU HAVE A SONG CALLED ZENDAYA, IS THAT YOUR ULTIMATE CRUSH OR DOES THE SONG MEAN SOMETHING ELSE?
I’ll be honest with you, I have no clue why we chose that name for the song. The song actually belongs to Legallyrxx, an artist from Mexico of my generation. I remember when he sent it to me; I told him that I had to be on it. The beat was crazy good. It took me like 30 minutes to do my part because I knew exactly how to get into it. I love that song, and the fans go crazy for it at the shows. But yeah, I wouldn’t mind meeting Zendaya.
GATITA PRETTY IS ONE OF OUR FAVORITES, WHAT DO YOU LOOK FOR IN A WOMAN WHEN DATING?
Gatita Pretty says it all. I love when a girl prepares herself and brings confidence to the table. Confidence and self-assurance are very attractive to me. The song is not just about one girl; it’s about all the women in the world. Don’t let anybody bring you down. You are all pretty.
YOU HAVE A THING FOR CATS, WHAT INSPIRED YOUR ICED OUT KITTY NECKLACE?
Yes, I love everything about cats. I even drew inspiration from my recent cat, Cosmo, for my latest album. Sadly, Cosmo died last year on the exact day my album came out this year. That’s why I got the kitty necklace. I always try to bring significance to my projects, and what better inspiration than Cosmo?
WHAT IS NEXT FOR YOU?
Music, music, music. Trust me, we are not going to stop, especially after the tour we just came back from. It gave me so much inspiration to keep going, and that’s why I love my fans. So yeah, more music and a few cool things we’ve recorded recently.
