AIMEE SONG WANTS YOUR GLASSES TO BE PART OF THE OUTFIT

There are accessories you add to an outfit, and then there are the ones that can change the entire thing.

Aimee Song is making the case for the latter with her new eyewear collaboration with ZEELOOL, a four-style collection designed around the idea that glasses shouldn’t feel separate from personal style. Dubbed “Let’s Frame Your Vibe,” the collaboration moves from slim ’90s ovals to oversized shield frames, giving each silhouette its own personality rather than asking one pair of glasses to work with everything.

And Song didn’t just show up for the campaign. According to the brand, she worked on material selection and silhouette development, approaching the collection around the different roles, routines and moods that make up an actual wardrobe.

Which brings us to the important question:

Which Aimee are we buying?

THE ’90S

We should probably start here.

The ’90s is the collection’s slim oval frame, made from Mazzucchelli acetate and offered in several colors, including black, red, white and tortoise. It’s small, slightly retro and probably the easiest pair in the collection to build an outfit around.

Tiny oval glasses have a very specific power.

Tank top. Great.

Big coat. Better.

Messy hair and absolutely no idea what you’re doing?

Suddenly you’re creative.

This is what I need from an accessory.

Help me lie.

THE CLASSIC

For anyone who just read that and thought, Absolutely not, there’s The Classic.

A clean rectangular silhouette made from Italian Mazzucchelli acetate, it’s the most straightforward of the four: polished, minimal and available in shades including black, brown and tortoise.

This is the pair for the white T-shirt, good jeans, trench coat person.

You know her.

She somehow owns matching hangers.

THE AVIATOR

Then things get a little bigger.

The Aviator takes the familiar pilot shape and translates it into acetate, with rounder, more generous proportions than the traditional metal version.

It’s still wearable, but there’s considerably more glasses happening.

Which I support.

If the frame is going to occupy this much real estate on my face, we might as well acknowledge it.

THE SHIELD

And finally, the person who did not come here to be reasonable.

The Shield uses a sculptural one-piece construction and is the most statement-driven silhouette of the collection. ZEELOOL currently shows it in red, black and tortoise.

These aren’t the glasses you forget you’re wearing.

Good.

Sometimes an outfit needs an accessory that enters the room approximately four seconds before you do.

SO, WHICH ONE?

What works about the collection is that it doesn’t really propose a signature pair.

The Classic can handle the sensible days. The ’90s is for when the outfit needs something. The Aviator gets bigger. The Shield has apparently made other plans.

That feels much closer to how people actually get dressed.

We’ve spent years being told to find our aesthetic, establish our uniform and build the perfect capsule wardrobe.

Okay.

Can I be somebody else on Friday?

Apparently yes.

You just need different glasses.
