Fashion trends are like a clock, they always come back to where they started. With the resurgence of 90s trends in present day, we thought it might be interesting to look at the timeline of fashion leading up to this point. Take a look at some of the best and worst styles over the last two decades.

Light-wash denim, chokers, and flannels were all the rage in the 1990s. Colors were generally dark and makeup consisted of a neutral palette. Cropped tops and leather jackets were also a basic essential of 90s fashion. As far as hair goes, chopped was totally in. “The Rachel,” anyone?
With the transition from the late 90s to the early 2000s came a complete color shift. Gone were blacks, browns and greys and in came pastel pinks, purples and blues. Chokers were still cool and often paired with bootcut jeans and platform sandals . Crimped hair and glossy lips were found on just about any mainstream starlet.

The mid 2000s resembled an attire you’d probably find your middle school art teacher wearing. Florals, blue eyeshadow, and ballet flats were considered “in” and everything was embellished with sequins. Bootcut jeans remained but were layered underneath skirts.

As the 2000s reached double digits, bohemian trends were incorporated into mainstream style. Floral patterns still existed but under a more neutral palette. Long dresses/skirts, denim vests and boots with fringe were essential. Hair was ombre and wavy. Large belts and long beaded necklaces were also a common accessory.
Present day brings back light wash denim, baggy, ripped jeans and chokers. Leather jackets and flannels have also returned, often seen paired with cropped tops. For accessories, rounded sunglasses and, of course, the choker are popular items. Hair also resembles that of the 90s with carefree, tousled waves.
