Devarrow Shares New Single + Video For Lightning Bolt

Today Devarrow is releasing a new singleLightning Bolt” from his LP Heart Shaped Rock. Imagine an upbeat track filled with playful whistles that evoke a sense of freedom and lightheartedness. The melody is simple yet catchy, creating a feel-good vibe that invites listeners to embrace the beauty around them.

Graham on the track, “Lightning Bolt was written during a couple cold winter days in my converted school bus. I remember the time distinctly, as I had to keep the wood stove going to keep things warm, and spent many hours huddled up beside it, guitar in hand. I was listening to a lot of J.J. Cale at that time, and was inspired by his bluesy driving rhythms. I took that driving rhythm and sped it up, finding a way to incorporate it into a more contemporary poppy feel. Lyrically, I was striving for something that reflected a bit of the laid back vibe of being down at the bus, mixed with the idea that some days it’s just impossible to get anything done with so many distractions. Half the trouble with slowing down is just getting past all the distractions which pass you along the way. ”

Graham Ereaux, who makes music under the alias, Devarrow just released his newest LP Heart Shaped Rock. Despite his seemingly bustling life in rural coastal Canada as a carpenter, surfer, and nature lover, his latest album, Heart Shaped Rock, defies any notion of musical complacency. Opening with the lines, “Every morning I just wake up and I just wash my face. Go downstairs and make some breakfast, coffee, and some bacon and eggs,” the record offers a refreshing take on life’s simple pleasures, injecting vitality into a folk genre that can often lean towards melancholy.

FEATURE INTERVIEW:

Are there any personal experiences or stories behind “Lightning Bolt”?

Lightning Bolt’ is about distraction, and the quest for a day free of it. It’s a rare thing to have an entire day where I can stay focused on one thing, and not be pulled a million different directions. The song is specifically about trying to get from town to my bus in the woods, but really, the song is about the universal chaos of distraction I face most days.

What do you hope listeners take away from the single?

I hope they find joy in it, and maybe a bit of truth too. We live in a Brave New World type of world, where we are constantly bombarded by distraction, and sidetracked from a life which is actually fulfilling.

Are there any songs on ‘Heart Shaped Rock’ that hold a special meaning for you? What do you hope your fans will take away from this album?

“Falling into pieces” is one of my favorite songs record and hold a lot of meaning to me. The title and lyrics would imply something is breaking apart, but it can also imply pieces are falling into place. To me, it’s about unlearning the things that mean little to us, shattering our assumptions of what makes a good life, and then putting them back together in a way which actually serves us.

I hope listeners will find something in it which encourages them to keep listening, and at best, helps define a carefree time in their own life. There are a few records in my life, which feel meaningful to me because they came to me at a time when I needed them. They aren’t necessarily famous records, they were just timely. I hope that Heart Shaped Rock can do that for others. I think we all need an outlet to be a bit less serious, so hopefully this record can help folks find that.
