Virgen María  is here to ‘blex’ you

Hailing from Madrid artist and performer Virgen María is here to ‘blex’ you. A thin line between art and music is drawn every time Virgen María manifests her blexing powers between the dj deck & the pole, a cocktail of sex, pataphysics, weird and spirituality. Her aesthetic and conceptual art has already led to collaborations with Mugler, Flume, king kong magazine and more plus being followed by icons like Kanye West or Lotta Volkova. Virgen María has blexed in iconic venues such as Berghain, heav3n LA, All Club Shanghai & Sonar Festival.

Hi Virgen María, it’s a pleasure to interview you for Galore. For those of us who don’t know you, can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

My pleasure. I try to be free and do whatever I feel in the moment, alone or with my friends. Specifically I would be an artist, dj & stripper. I consider myself an activist, I don’t like rules and I don’t like censorship.

What inspired your name?

Virgin Mary, I think it’s funny to do of Virgen María an intellectual whore instead of a covered mother. I also feel very connected to what I understand by god and Virgin Mary did too. I think we are the same but she has been painted in the wrong way that’s why I’m here.

What do you mean by “blex you”?

Bless+Sex=Blex you

You have an extremely innovative form of self expression. Your outfits are equally mesmerising, captivating and a little unsettling. What inspires how you adorn your body?

I’m an internet girl so I love internet aesthetic. I am obsessed with accumulation, asmr & porn. I like to transmit oddly satisfying feelings always. I always work with my friends they inspire me constantly like filip custic, napolafar, naive supreme it’s amazing to have your nucleus of people to create in a safe space.

In what ways do you aim to promote body positivity?

I promote it by feeling good being naked or semi naked. It’s fine and beautiful to play with nudity and that doesn’t mean that anyone can abuse you

Do you feel your costumes transfer the same energy as the music that you play?

It’s complementary

What are your top 5 favorite tracks to spin?

Depending the moment.

If you could open up for any artist, who would it be?

I don’t think about that I like to be in the correct places with the correct people.

What’s a city you have not DJ’ed at yet, but would love to have a set in the near future?

Are you excited for halloween? Can our readers get a sneak peak of what you will be dressing as?
