Trippie Redd drops his 5th mixtape, A Love Letter To You, featuring tracks with Bryson Tiller, The Kid Laroi, Lil Wayne, and more. On his latest release, he takes you on tales of being in love with hard verses over smooth R&B beats. We chat with Trippie on his new project, his muse, and girlfriend – Skye, and what’s next for one of Rap’s most influential artists. Read our full interview below.
Can you tell us about “A Love Letter To You 5”?
“A Love Letter To You 5” is me doing what I do best, rapping about love. Since the first project in the series, my fans have always supported me most when I lay it all out there. This album is a continuation of that. I have grown a lot since I first started and this album just shows that. I’ve grown up, learned from my mistakes and got my girl along the way. Having her on the album, too, that shit is legendary.
Having your girlfriend as your muse is very Jane Birkin and Serge Gainsboroug … how has Skye inspired you to disrupt the rap game?
It’s a beautiful thing when you can find inspiration in the people you love. Skye has definitely played a special role in my life, and she’s been a huge source of inspiration. When you have someone who understands your art and supports your vision, it can really elevate your creativity.
Having her as my muse has brought out different sides of my music. She’s got this energy and charisma that’s infectious, and it’s rubbed off on me in the best way possible. We bounce ideas off each other, challenge each other, and I think that dynamic is helping me push the boundaries in my projects.
We know you love anime what anime are you currently watching? What love story in anime comes closest to you and Skye’s relationship?
I love anime. I’ve actually been developing my own anime series with ‘The Boondocks’ producer Carl Jones – you’re gonna have to wait to find out more about that.
When it comes to comparing our relationship to an anime love story, I’d say it’s gotta be something like Naruto and Hinata from Naruto. They started as friends, and it was this slow burn, you know? Hinata always had Naruto’s back, just like Skye’s always had mine. And over time, their connection grew stronger, and they became this unstoppable team. I feel like that’s us, too – we’re a team, and we’re always there for each other no matter what life throws our way.

Growing up how did perceive falling in love? Have you ever been a fuck boy, or always a lover?
There was no time before Skye so I don’t know what you’re talking about hahahah….
But I have always been a lover at heart. Yes, life has a way of teaching you some lessons along the way. And we’re human, we make mistakes – I’ve made mistakes. But those experiences also help you grow and learn and evolve. If you can survive all the shit that the world throws at you, including the mistakes one of you makes… that’s how you know you’re a different type of love. And if you can find that person, and overcome that type of thing together and stay true to each other, that’s what real love is about.
What your thoughts on Ai and where we could be with humanoid companionship would you ever date a computer ai girl like if they made Siri a baddie?
Mannnn, you guys are playinn. I don’t know about that. They really have technology on some next level, though. I’m sure we will see it happening soon.
How has your flow changed since the SoundCloud era and where do you see your music evolution going?
Back then, I was just expressing myself, it wasn’t really about trying to sound a certain way. I was experimenting with different sounds and styles but what that era was really all about was creating something we could all be in together…something different, full of emotion, even rage.
As I grew I’ve honed in on my own unique sound. But as of late, I’ve been really trying to push it to the next level. I don’t want to be in one box. I’m across the board.
You have some dope collaborations from Travis to JUICE World who would be your ideal collaboration dead or alive?
I’ve been blessed to work with Travis and JUICE, may he rest in peace. As for my ideal collaboration, there are so many incredible artists both dead and alive that I admire. It’s hard to choose just one. But if I had to pick, I think it would be a dream come true to collaborate with ‘Pac.
How do you handle heartbreak?
I pour it into my music
You from the Midwest Ohio, what did your mom instill in you and what advice would you give your 15 year old self?
My mama taught me the importance of respect, and to be a gentleman.
The advice I would tell 15 year-old-me: Do what you’re gonna do, listen to your gut. Only you know what’s best for you.
Believe in yourself even when others doubt you. Stay dedicated. Don’t be discouraged by setbacks or negativity; use them as fuel. And most importantly, stay true to who you are and never compromise your authenticity for anyone or anything.
So we saw you in the food game now what inspired you to create your own food franchise?
I wanted to give my fans something they could connect with me on that was different than music. This is something that I’ve been working on for a while. Taking the time figuring out what would go in the meal, the flavors, how the packaging will look and the entire process has been really fun. Creating this meal is like art to me too so I’ve approached it like everything else I do. I want to make it different than the typical restaurants.
