What first sparked your interest in skincare?
The start of the pandemic was a turning point for me. I had just turned 20, entering my first real year of adulthood, and it hit me that I needed to start taking care of my skin now, or I’d regret it down the road. At that point, my skincare routine was minimal—sunscreen here and there—but with the skincare boom on TikTok, skincare became a hobby for so many, including me. I got into the 10-step routines and kept it up for a month, only to realize I didn’t have the patience for all those steps! After a lot of research, I found that simpler was better for me. My essentials became vitamin C for my hyperpigmentation, sunscreen because I have freckles and know my skin is more prone to sun damage, and hyaluronic acid for my dry skin. It’s been four years, and these three ingredients remain my go-to staples.
Do you have any must-have products or rituals that you swear by?
Absolutely! I get so much PR and work with different brands, so my routine changes often, but there are still a few products that I absolutely can’t live without. I’ll give you one staple from each category: skincare, makeup, haircare, and body care.
For skincare, it’s got to be the Tower 28 SOS Spray. This spray is unique because of its hypochlorous acid ingredient, which I like to call “hand sanitizer for the face.” It’s perfect for refreshing and protecting my skin post-gym or after a flight, helping prevent breakouts and keeping my dry skin hydrated. It’s also a lifesaver on hot days for a quick refresh.
In makeup, my go-to is the NYX Epic Eyeliner. I’ve been loyal to this product since high school and, despite trying others, nothing quite compares! It’s only $10, but it delivers more impact than some of the high-end $40 eyeliners I’ve tried—it’s super pigmented and always gives a strong, defined look.
For hair, I swear by the K18 Molecular Repair Mask. I’ve dyed my hair over 20 times in recent years, so this mask has been crucial for me. What’s amazing is that it’s a leave-in, so I can skip conditioner, apply the mask after shampooing, wait just 4 minutes, and my hair is soft and smooth as ever.
Do you have any beauty hacks or insider tips for achieving flawless skin?
This might be a little controversial, but it’s a tip that’s been backed by dermatologists, and it works wonders for me. I don’t use a cleanser to wash my face in the morning. Instead, I rinse with just water. Since there’s usually no significant buildup of bacteria overnight, and I’ve gone to bed with all my serums, there’s no need to wash it all away. I’ve found it really beneficial! My skin feels more balanced and hydrated throughout the day.
Skincare is personal – what has been the biggest lesson you’ve learned in your own skincare journey, and how has that influenced your personal brand?
I completely agree that skincare is personal, and I’ve definitely learned that lesson the hard way! The biggest thing I’ve realized is that we only have one skin, so we need to treat it carefully. Early on, I thought I could try everything that was sent to me in PR packages, but my skin paid the price. I went through one of the worst purges ever! My skin was red, irritated, and it hurt. Now, I always stick to my core products, and if I want to try something new, I introduce it slowly. It’s all about finding balance and respecting your skin’s unique needs, and I think that really comes through in my brand’s approach to skincare.
What are some beauty/skincare products that you can’t live without?
Aside from my core staples, there are a couple of products I truly can’t go without. First is the Laneige Sleeping Mask—I’ve been using it every night since college, and it keeps my lips soft and hydrated. It’s always on my nightstand. Another must-have is the First Aid Beauty KP Bump Eraser Body Scrub. If you saw my video back in 2021, you’ll know exactly why! Check out my most popular Tik Tok video.
Are there any exciting projects you’re currently working on that you can share?
Yes! I’m thrilled to share that my clothing brand, @houseofenvisage, released its Fall/Winter 2024 collection last month! We’re so excited to bring out a full line of cool, contemporary streetwear designed to be worn all season—or even all year—long. The collection includes everything from versatile sweatsuits to tank tops for all genders, with a focus on pieces that feel both timeless and fresh. It’s been a labor of love, and I can’t wait for everyone to see it! 🙂
How do you stay inspired and innovative as a creator?
Honestly, connecting with my audience is what keeps me grounded and inspired. Whether it’s through my Instagram broadcast channel, direct messages, or reading comments, these interactions remind me why I love creating in the first place. Knowing that what I create resonates with people and seeing their excitement! It’s the most rewarding part of what I do and fuels me to keep pushing myself creatively.
How has social media changed your perception of the skincare/beauty industry?
To be honest, social media has completely changed my perspective. Before I got into social media, I wasn’t very educated about the skincare, makeup, and haircare products I was using. I’d even been using many of them wrong! Thanks to the educational content that creators share, I learned how to use products correctly, how to pick what actually works best for me, and, importantly, I saved a lot of money by avoiding products that wouldn’t work for my skin. Social media has been an amazing resource.
As soon as you review products, they immediately sell out from the brand. How does having this influence over a market make you feel?
Honestly, I haven’t really had the chance to sit down and process it! But now that I think about it, it makes me feel incredibly empowered and heard. Knowing that my influence is this strong motivates me to be thorough in my research before sharing a product to ensure I’m always giving my audience accurate information. It’s a responsibility I take seriously, and I’m grateful for the trust my followers place in me.
