The Tired Millennial: Resetting your life for the New Year
If you’re like me and millions of others set on having life-changing goals for the new year (less screen time? kick the caffeine addiction? maybe…), here are some simple tips to help you through the most challenging part: The beginning. When setting goals for yourself, whether financial or fitness, you must first acknowledge all that you did wrong in the prior year and then go from there. Improving yourself in these areas starts first with accountability; saying, “I fucked up my finances,” is a good start; Congrats, you’re onto the road to recovery. A good tip would be to map out your bills monthly and be ahead of everything coming in and out; if you are like many others and create content for money, a big tip to remember is taxes. Be prepared to file your taxes early so you have wiggle room to adjust anything that may stop you from receiving your max refund. Apps like Quickbooks have plans made to make your life easier. Another tip would be to budget your spending, avoid walking into a Target store to “see what’s new,” and walk out – $200 on nothing important. Either carry cash with you, create a shopping list and avoid aisles that aren’t on your list, or limit what cards are on your Apple Pay (I’ve sadly had to do this) are tips that will help you save your hard-earned money.

Studies have shown that prioritizing rest will instantly boost your mood; if you have trouble falling asleep, try Lemme Sleep Tight gummies (the reviews are good!) on Amazon for $21 USD
Mental health: Prioritizing your mental health is key to a happy, healthy life. Between a 9-5 full-time job, the urge to either create or watch content as if it’s a side job in itself, and the duties of being a young adult and managing personal and professional relationships, today’s youth is dealing with a mental health crisis. I’ll speak from my personal experiences; I’ve hit a wall or two..or three, and crashing out is expected and bound to happen to anyone. You’re no good to anyone if your mind, body, and soul aren’t aligned; a significant impact on your mental state starts with what you consume, both in food and in life. Removing toxins (fast food, loads of sugar) is an excellent start to detoxing your body. Apply this method with any person in your life that does nothing for you but brings you stress and anxiety. Stress can be a killer; returning to the basics is always a great start. Getting active, finding a walking buddy, or getting a new gym membership are great ways to relieve stress and manage mental health.

Beauty: With a new year approaching, now is the best time to go through your year’s worth of make-up and beauty products and toss out what you either hated or won’t buy again (you can also donate unused items to your local shelter!). Starting your new year with a new palette of choices will make you feel bomb AF (studied and proven to work). A new fragrance or new eyeliner can change how you think about yourself and has been proven to boost confidence and improve your work performance. Before the New Year approaches, take advantage of the year-end deals many retailers have. This is an excellent way to try something new at a price you can’t beat. Another good tip would be to consult with your local Sephora guru to try shade-matching products you’re interested in trying.

Fitness: Who am I to give any fitness advice? Welp, here you go. I am still figuring out my fitness journey (being a working adult/time management….excuses). Still, I’ve always read up on and discussed with fitness experts the hacks you can try to lead you onto the right path of Fitness 101. One of the most common excuses young working adults have is that we need more time to commit to fitness. Walking daily has been the best way to keep in shape. Try setting aside 30 minutes to an hour daily to get consistent steps in. Create playlists and invest in good headphones to get you through your sessions. Checking in with your doctor also will keep you on the right path to a healthy lifestyle. To maintain your fitness goals, cooking at home is another easy tool to help you maximize your hard work. I sound like my parents, but it’s true: cooking your meals as opposed to eating out not only benefits your pockets but will help with avoiding those hidden calories and controlling your portion control.
